CHS

  • Basketball Team Busy Over the Summer… Coach Eddie Romines and the CHS Red Devil basketball team have been busy this summer as they have participated in camps at Chapman HS, PC and USC… In the recent camp at USC they won 2 out of 3 games… These camps give the players an opportunity to improve their skills during the off-season and according to Coach Romines they are all working hard and showing improvement.

  • Yankees 6 – Braves 2… In the rubber game of their 3-game series in New York last night, the Yankees took a 6-2 win to give them a 2-1 series win… The Yankees led 5-0 before the Braves finally got on the board in the 5th inning and then they scored again in the 6th inning when Johan Camargo homered…The Braves actually outhit the Yankees 9-7 but 3 of the Yankees hits were homers while Camargo’s was the only homer for the Braves… The Braves fall to 49-36 on the season but still lead the NL East by a 1.5 games over the Phillies… They move on to Milwaukee to start a 4-game series with the Brewers tonight.
  • 2018 MLB All-Star Game… The MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 17th and it will be at Nationals Park in Washington, DC and you will be able to watch it on FOX… Now some of you die-hard baseball fans out there may be interested in voting on the players you would like to see in the game… If so click here to go to the MLB website where you can vote…. You may vote up to 5 times every 24 hours (up to a total of 35 ballots) and the voting ends on July 5th at 11:59 pm ET… Vote, I did!
  • Drive 4 – Fireflies 2… The Greenville Drive celebrated the Fourth of July with a 4-2 win over the Colombia Fireflies down in the capital city yesterday afternoon… The Drive pounded out 12 hits to produce their 4 runs while two Drive pitchers held the Fireflies to just 5 hits one of which was a homer… The Drive are now 6-8 in the second half of their season.

NASCAR

  • Driver Standings… Checking in with the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series driver standings you find that Kyle Busch lead all drivers with 736 point and 5 wins… Kevin Harvick is in second with 674 pints and has 5 wins also… The balance of the top 5 is made up of Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr and Brad Keselowski… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney… To see the entire Monster Series Driver Standings click here.
  • Schedule This Weekend… This being the week of July Fourth all the action takes place down in Daytona… The Xfinity Series Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 will take place tomorrow at 7:30 pm and can be seen on NBCSN… The Monster Energy Coke Zero Sugar 400 will have the green flag drop at 7 pm on Saturday and it can be seen on NBC.

 

LDHS Softball

  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude at 8:30 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through July 23rd.

  • Softball Tryouts… Coach Smith is also inviting any young lady in grades 7-12 who would like to come out for softball or just see if you might be interested to come to the workouts they are now having on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night between the hours of 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the LDHS softball field… No practice the week of July 4th!Countdown to

  • Clinton YMCA Summer Camps and Swimming Lessons… The Clinton Family YMCA will be having a full slate of summer sports camps this summer and will also be offering swimming lessons throughout the summer… To see complete details on all these click here… The next camps is a cheer camp starting July 9th for girls ages 5-12 and you must register by Friday, 7-6 at 5 pm… The other camp is a soccer camp starting July 16th for boys and girls ages 6-12… The deadline to register for it is July 13th at 5 pm… Again for more details on these and swimming lessons click here.
  • City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Sumer Camps… The City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting 2 more camps this summer… They have a basketball camp next week (July 9-12) and a baseball camp (July 16-19)… Also registration will open for cheerleading, football and fall baseball at different times this summer… For more information about all of these, click here.
