Clinton O-Zone All-Stars in Action Tomorrow

  • The Clinton Family YMCA ‘O’ Zone All-Stars, who captured the District 3 Championship in Edgefield County last week, will open play tomorrow against District 11 champion North Myrtle Beach…  Their opening game is at 2 pm at the Timken Sports Complex in Union, SC… The format is a 16 team double-elimination tournament for Dixie Youth, Inc. ‘O’ Zone league…  Teams are divided into a new format of two – eight team pool with the winners of each pool advancing to play the best 2 of 3 in Moncks Corner, SC on July 20th…Clinton is in the Dixon Bracket pool… If Clinton wins the opening game on Saturday they will play on Sunday at 7 pm…  If they lose their opening game they would play at 4 pm on Sunday… The team is managed by Head Coach Graig Glenn and assisted by Josh McLendon and Shane Kyko… Team members are Bryce Young, Lee Malone, Tushawan Richardson, Jayden Glenn, Zane McLendon, Rylan Bagwell, Kason Copeland, Carson Glenn, Dylen Waters, Jy Leake, Tanner Kydo and Caleb Taylor… ‘O’ Zone means open base league where the bases are farther back and players can play off base similar to regulation baseball.  ‘O’ Zone is for youngsters ages 11 and 12… If you would like to see the entire tournament bracket, click on the following: 2018 State Tournament O Zone Bracket 


Laurens Hosting Little League Minors State Tournament

  • The Laurens LL Minors (8-10) All-Stars will be hosting the State Championship Tournament tonight at the Laurens City Parks…There will be 10 teams in the tournament and it will be a double elimination format… As you may recall the Laurens All-Stars won the District 1 Championship defeating Greenwood 12-2 and also defeated Easley twice by scores of 8-3 and 12-0… The team members are Rylan Paxton, Braden Yarbrough, Brayden Patterson, Samuel Adams, Logan Martin, Luke Young, Detwan Suber, Bradon Burke, Auston Williams, Tristan Buzbee, Cal Benson, Camden Finley and Wyatt Pinson…. The team is coached by Darnell Suber and he is assisted by Tori Patterson in a reversal of roles they hold with the Laurens Raider varsity baseball team… The Laurens All-Star team (B3) and Summerville have both drawn byes and will not start tournament action until tomorrow… Laurens will take the field in the morning at 9:00 am against the winner of a game being played tonight… If you would like to see the entire tournament bracket, click here.

  • Brewers 7 – Braves 2… The Braves started their 4-game series with the red-hot Brewers in Milwaukie last night in a less than stellar note as the Brewers took a 7-2 win… The Braves were held to just 3 hits and Ozzie Albies had 2 of them going 2-4 with an RBI and scoring a run… The Braves remain in Milwaukie to complete the 4-game series this weekend.
  • Drive 4 – Fireflies 2… The Greenville Drive made it 3 wins in a row last night as they took a 4-2 win over the Columbia Fireflies down in the capital city last night… The Fireflies actually outhit the Drive 9-8 but one of the Drive’s hits was a homer and the Fireflies had an error that figured into the scoring of one of the Drive’s runs…. The two teams finish their series tonight then the Drive board the bus and head up I-26 to start a 3-game series with the Ashville Tourist tomorrow.


LDHS Softball

  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude at 8:30 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through July 23rd.

  • Softball Tryouts… Coach Smith is also inviting any young lady in grades 7-12 who would like to come out for softball or just see if you might be interested to come to the workouts they are now having on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night between the hours of 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the LDHS softball field… No practice the week of July 4th!
