County Council Approves Revised Resolution

Laurens County Council approved a resolution this week, after it was watered down from the way it was proposed at a previous council meeting. Councilman Stewart Jones had asked Council for approve a resolution that declared the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) as unconstitutional. County Attorney Sandy Cruickshanks quickly pointed out that such declarations were not the responsibility of a county council.

The new version presented this week asks for the state’s delegation to Washington to seek to overturn parts of the NDAA which Stewart said are unconstitutional. Council Member McDaniel objected to the action this week, and voted no. Council Member Diane Anderson said each citizen of Laurens County should make their own position on this known, and that it’s not Council’s job to speak on behalf of everyone in the county.

Jones told WLBG he has problems with two portions of the NDAA.
