  • 2018 Evening Day Soccer Camp… August 1 – 5, 2018. This camp is for youth ages 5-15 and is designed for player ability growth… Cost is $25 and it will be from 5PM – 8PM each day… For more information on this camp including registering online, click here….
  • 2018 Free Kids Basketball Camp… August 2-3, 2018, 9AM – Noon…. This camp is designed for youth in grades 1-6 where the coaches and players of the PC women’s basketball team will help your child improve their individual skills… For more information on this camp, click here.

College Notes

  • SEC Media Days… One sure sign that we are drawing ever closer to the football season is when the college conferences start the football media days… Well the SEC started theirs yesterday with remarks form the commissioner and the head coaches from Texas A&M, Kentucky and LSU… South Carolina’s Will Muschamp is not scheduled to speak until Thursday… If you click here it will carry you to the SEC posting about the Media Days where you can find the schedule, quotes and video form the entire event.
  • ACC Media Days… The ACC Media Days (they call it the 2018 ACC Football Kickoff) will start tomorrow and if you would like to see that schedule of events and links to watch it live click here… Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is scheduled to speak after 2 pm on Thursday.

  • Braves… The Braves are off for the All-Star break and a reminder that the Braves have 4 players who made the All-Star squad this year the most of any NL team… Freddie Freeman will start at first base for the NL squad and he is hitting .316 on the season with 16 homeruns…He led the NL in fan voting the first Brave to do so since Dale Murphy… Nick Markakis will start in the outfield and he is batting .323 with 10 homeruns… This is the first time he will appear in the All-Star Game and no player in MLB history has played in more career games than he (1928) before being selected…. The Braves have two other players on the squad and they are second baseman Ozzie Albies and right-handed pitcher Mike Foltynewicz… Albies is the youngest player on the All-Star team at the age of 21… If you would like to see the roster for both the NL and AL All-Star Teams click here and it will carry you to the MLB website where that information is available along with links to stats on  each player…. By the way the game is on FOX tonight and the coverage starts at 7:30.
  • Freeman in Homerun Derby… Freddie Freeman was also a participant in the Homerun Derby last night up in DC at the home of the Washington Nationals and in the first round he paired against the hometown hero Bryce Harper… Harper defeated Freeman 13-12 in that opening round and then went on to win the the event… For more information on this, click here. 
  • Legends 7 – Drive 5… The Greenville Drive had their 7 game winning streak snapped last night as the Lexington Legends took a 7-5 at Flour Field… The Drive scored all 5 of their runs in the 2nd inning to take a 5-1 lead… The Legends tied the game with 3 runs in the 6th and then scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning… The two finish their 4-game series tonight.

 

LDHS

  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude at 8:30 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of July.
  • Softball Tryouts… Coach Smith is also inviting any young lady in grades 7-12 who would like to come out for softball or just see if you might be interested to come to the workouts they are now having on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night between the hours of 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the LDHS softball field.
  • Cheerleading Kiddie Camp… Once again this year the LDHS Cheerleaders will be offering a Cheerleading Kiddie Camp on Saturday, August 4th in the Auxiliary Gym at LDHS… The camp will start at 9 am and conclude at noon and is open to youth ages 3-12… Instruction will be done by both JV and Varsity cheerleaders under the supervision of their coaches… There will be snacks, crafts and games as well as a T-shirt included in the $30 cost of the camp… Those who attend will give a performance at the end of the camp and on August 31st during the third quarter of the Raider football game with Myrtle Beach… Now for complete details on this camp, the registration form and contact information if you have further questions, click here.

  • Clinton YMCA Summer Camps and Swimming Lessons… The Clinton Family YMCA will be having a full slate of summer sports camps this summer and will also be offering swimming lessons throughout the summer… To see complete details on all these click here… The next camp is a dance camp starting July 9th for girls ages 5-12 and you must register by Friday, 7-6 at 5 pm… The other camp is a soccer camp starting August 6th for girls ages 5-12… The deadline to register for it is July 13th at 5 pm… Again for more details on these and swimming lessons click here.
  • City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Sumer Camps… Registration will close this Saturday (July 21st) for tackle football and cheerleading… Tackle football is open to youth 7-12 and cheerleading is open to youth 5-13… The cost for each is $50… you can register daily at The Ridge on 301 Exchange Drive and if you have any questions call 681-7275
