Local Notes:

Laurens Majors All-Stars

  • Laurens 14 – Irmo 5…  In action at the State Tournament up in Taylors last night, the Laurens Little League Majors (B3) All-Stars battled both the weather and Irmo last night and came out on top as they were able to get the game in and defeated Irmo 14-5 to punch their tickets to the finals tonight… The game had to be delayed 40 minutes due to lightning in the area and toward the end had a few minutes of delay as the lights went out (timer automatically cut them off at 10 pm and then they had to wait for them to come back up) but none of that seemed to phase the team as Coach Pridgen put it they played a complete game… Laurens jumped out to an early lead as they plated 2 runs in the top of the first inning on RBI hits by Jaedon Goodwin and Owen Pridgen… Irmo did tie the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning… Laurens regained the lead for good with a single run in the 3rd inning and then added 3 more in the 5th… Irmo’s last 3 runs were scored in the bottom of the 5th inning to make it 6-5… Laurens “put the nail in the coffin” plating 8 runs in the top of the 6th inning and then holding Irmo scoreless in the bottom of the inning to make the final 14-5… Laurens pounded out 17 hits while three Laurens pitchers allowed Irmo just 3 hits… Jaedon Goodwin led Laurens at the plate going 4-4 scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 runs… Bennett Edwards and Owen Pridgen each had 3 hits for Laurens… To see the box score of the game click here… Laurens travels back to Taylors tonight to face the home standing and undefeated Northwood All-Stars… The game is at 7 pm tonight and Laurens must defeat Northwood tonight and tomorrow night to claim the State Championship… Good Luck to the team!!
