Football Practice Starts Today

  • If you are near one of the local high schools and you notice more cars around the athletic facilities there is a good reason why and that is that football practice starts today… Now you will not be hearing the sounds of pads hitting each other as SCHSL rules say that they cannot go to full contact until about day 5 of practice…. I’ll try to get a full schedule of scrimmages between now and next week and post it here so you will know when you can get a glimpse of your team before the season starts.

  • Dodgers 8 – Braves 2… The Braves and the Dodgers started a 4-game series down at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta last night and the Dodgers took the game by a score of 8-2… They outhit the Braves 12-7 and the Braves also had 3 errors that aided the Dodgers… The Dodgers left Rich Hill pitched 7 strong innings giving up only 3 hits and no runs while striking out 8 and walking 1… The Braves only runs came in the 8th inning on a two-run homer by Ronald Acuna Jr.
  • Crawdads 5 – Drive 2… The Greenville Drive finished their series with the Hickory Crawdads at Flour Filed last night on a down note as the Crawdads took a 5-2 win over the Drive…The Drive actually outhit the Crawdads 10-9 but the Crawdads simply got the clutch hits and the Drive did not… The Crawdad win gave them the series win 3-1 and the Drive now travel down I-26 for a weekend series on the coast with the Charleston RiverDogs.
  • Panthers… The Carolina Panthers Training Camp at Wofford College is now open and will close on Monday August 13th… To go to the Panthers website where you will find the training camp schedule, what not to bring, what you can bring and the answers to most any question you might have about the camp, click here…. The Panthers are scheduled to take the field for practice today at 3:15 and practice will end about 5:10 pm.
  • NASCARSchedule: The NASCAR Monster Energy Series will be racing up at Pocono this Sunday starting at 2:30 and it can be seen on the NBC Sports Network… The Xfinity Series will be racing tomorrow at the Iowa Speedway and the green flag is scheduled to drop at 5:00 pm ET… Standings: The Monster Energy Cup driver standings have the top 5 being Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano and Kurt Busch in that order… To see the entire standings, click here.

 

LDHS

  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude at 8:30 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of July.
  • Softball Tryouts… Coach Smith is also inviting any young lady in grades 7-12 who would like to come out for softball or just see if you might be interested to come to the workouts they are now having on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night between the hours of 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at the LDHS softball field.
  • Cheerleading Kiddie Camp… Once again this year the LDHS Cheerleaders will be offering a Cheerleading Kiddie Camp on Saturday, August 4th in the Auxiliary Gym at LDHS… The camp will start at 9 am and conclude at noon and is open to youth ages 3-12… Instruction will be done by both JV and Varsity cheerleaders under the supervision of their coaches… There will be snacks, crafts and games as well as a T-shirt included in the $30 cost of the camp… Those who attend will give a performance at the end of the camp and on August 31st during the third quarter of the Raider football game with Myrtle Beach… Now for complete details on this camp, the registration form and contact information if you have further questions, click here.

  • Clinton YMCA Summer Camps and Swimming Lessons… The Clinton Family YMCA will be having a full slate of summer sports camps this summer and will also be offering swimming lessons throughout the summer… To see complete details on all these click here… The next camp is a dance camp starting August 6th for girls ages 5-12… The deadline to register for it is Friday, August 3rd at 5 pm… Again for more details on these and swimming lessons click here.
  • Clinton YMCA Flag Football and Cheerleading… Registration is now open through August 17th for Flag Football and Cheerleading at the Clinton Family YMCA… Age groups will be 4 – 6, 7 – 9 and 10 – 12 for flag football and for grades K – 6 for cheerleading….   • City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Football & Cheerleading… Registration has reopened for tackle football & cheerleading but will close this Saturday (July 28st)… Tackle football is open to youth 7-12 and cheerleading is open to youth 5-13… The cost for each is $50… you can register daily at The Ridge on 301 Exchange Drive and if you have any questions call 681-7275
  • PC Summer Sports Camps… This summer various sports at PC will be holding camps for various age groups of youth in the area… To see a complete listing of all the camps click here… The next camp is: 2018 Evening Day Soccer Camp… August 1 – 5, 2018. This camp is for youth ages 5-15 and is designed for player ability growth… Cost is $25 and it will be from 5PM – 8PM each day… For more information on this camp including registering online, click here…. Also 2018 Free Kids Basketball Camp… August 2-3, 2018, 9AM – Noon….
