Local Notes

Football Scrimmages

  • Clinton… Last Friday morning at the CHS practice field the Red Devils faced off against the Midland Valley Mustangs… As you might expect the two teams both had their share of mistakes in the game but as Coach Webb said that is why you play these so you can make them here and not in the first game… He noted that his team needed more consistency and not make the same mistakes twice… Clinton will practice again today and then get another opportunity to take the field against someone else as they host Ninety Six tomorrow at 6:00 pm.
  • Laurens… The Laurens Raiders hosted Byrnes, BHP and Strom Thurmond on Saturday morning in their first live action of the pre-season… The Raiders had trouble getting their new offense in gear against Byrnes who had a very quick defensive line and Byrnes did get one TD on the Raiders… Against BHP and Strom Thurmond the offense fared better but still had problems getting it across the goal line… However the defense played tough and pretty much bent but did not break… afterwards Coach Liner was happy in what he saw on the field and thinks the team is ahead of where they were at the same time last year… Laurens will also be back on the field tomorrow as they travel down to Greenwood to take on Emerald and Seneca starting at 10:00 am.
