Cheaper for Us to Do It

Cost savings in tearing down dilapidated structures and clearing blighted properties in Clinton were reported to City Council at their August meeting Monday evening. City Manager Bill Ed Cannon said that by leasing equipment and having city crews clear properties they’ve been able to clear 10 to 15 sites for the price a contractor would charge for two sites. Cannon also presented the idea of having the property owners retain ownership of these properties by paying the city $100 a month for 12 months. This, he noted, would be an effort to revitalize the properties and put them back into the tax pool instead of leaving empty lots.
