CHS  

  • Girls Tennis: Greer 4 – Clinton 2… The Lady Red Devil tennis team opened their season back on Monday but I did not get the score until yesterday so let me pass that on to you… The team traveled to Greer and I hate to have to report that they fell to the Yellow Jackets by a score of 4-2… In singles action Gracie Spangler picked up the win for the Red Devils… The #2 doubles team composed of Aaliyah Johnston & Mary Grace Johnson picked up the other Red Devils win… To see complete match details click here… The team will have its first home match tomorrow as they host the Dreher Lady Blue Devils at the CMS tennis courts starting at 5:00 pm… Make plans to come out and cheer them on!

LDHS

  • Volleyball: The Raider volleyball teams had a tri-match yesterday with Woodruff and Ninety Six… The varsity lost to Woodruff 2-0 with set scores of 16-25 and 21-25… The Raiders also lost to Ninety Six 2-1 with set scores of 25-17, 14-25 and 20-25… For more information and comments from Coach Fleming click here….The JV team was also in action and they lost to both Woodruff and Ninety Six… For more information on the JV matches click here… The varsity team returns to action today as they host Ware Shoals in a 5:30 pm contest.
  • Century Club Memberships Now on Sale… Century Club memberships for the coming school year are now on sale for Laurens County School District 55… This is the only way to get season football tickets for the upcoming season…  As a member you will receive two reserved seat football regular season tickets (for playoff games you will have to pay for the tickets – SCHSL Rules – but you will sit in your regular seat) , a reserved parking spot for the Century Club lot directly in front of KC Hanna Stadium. You will also receive two athletic passes, which allow you to attend all other regular season (NOT PLAYOFF) athletic contests (excluding varsity football) free of charge… As a Century Club member you may also purchase additional reserved seats football season tickets for $30 per seat… For those fans that enjoy tailgating before to each football game, The Century Club will continue offering the Touchdown Tailgate Zone… The Touchdown Tailgate Zone membership includes all of the privileges of a regular Century Club membership PLUS an additional reserved parking space and an area for you, your family, and friends to tailgate prior to each Raider home football game. The cost of the Touchdown Tailgate Zone is just an additional $50. Laurens Academy… The Laurens Academy Crusader Volleyball teams started their season by traveling up to Oakbrook Prep yesterday.

  • Varsity: LA 3 – OP 1… The varsity volleyball team split the first two sets with Oakbrook and then came back to take the third set in a nail-bitter by a score of 26-24… The Crusaders went on to take the fourth set by a score of 25-11 win the match 3-1.
  • Middle School: OP 2 – LA 1… In middle school volleyball action prior to the varsity match, Oakbrook took a 2-1 win over the Crusaders… The teams will be back in action Thursday as they host Wardlaw starting at 5:00 pm

  • Braves 6 – Pirates 1Last night up in Pittsburg, the Braves used a pair of 2-run homers by Dansby Swanson to lead them to a 6-1 win over the Pirates… Kevin Gausman got the start for the Braves pitching 8 innings of shutout ball giving up only 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5.
  • Crawdads 14 – Drive 4… The Hickory Crawdads made it 4 in a row over the Grenville Drive last night at Flour Field as they took a 14-4 win to sweep the four-game series… Simply put they outhit the Dive 14-8 and 3 Drive errors aided the Crawdads cause… The Drive have tonight off before they head down to the coast of SC to start a 4-game series with the RiverDogs.

  • Laurens City Parks and Recreation Fall Ball… Registration is now open for fall baseball through the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation offices… There are 2 categories available… Coaches Pitch for Ages 6-8 and Kids Pitch for ages 9-11… Cost is $40… Registration is at their offices The Ridge located at 301 Exchange Drive and registration will close August 31st… For more information call 681-7275 or visit http://www.laurensrecreation.com/
  • Clinton-Newberry Tennis Association Mixed Double Tournament This Saturday… The Clinton-Laurens-Newberry Tennis Association will hold its annual Mixed Doubles Round Robin Tournament Saturday, August 25th, at Laurens City Park from 9:00 to 12:00…Each player will play three sets with a different mixed doubles partner, against different mixed doubles competition…. There will be two divisions: (1) 2.5 & 3.5 and (2) 3.5 & 4.0… Play will be limited to 20 participants, so be sure to sign-up early… The fee is only ten dollars per player… However, please register before the deadline… (Donations to our non-profit organization will, of course, be appreciated.)… Prizes will be awarded to winners in both divisions… To sign-up, email Martha (mbjwilder@gmail.com), Subject Line: August Round Robin Registration, or call Martha (864-340-1888) with your name, your phone number, and the division you wish to play in by the deadline, Thursday, August 23rd
  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, August 24th where the featured speakers will be the local high school coaches.
  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of August
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… The current sports you can sign up for now are fall soccer and flag football… Early registration ended August 10th but you can still register until August 27th it will just cost you a little more to do so.
