Local Notes

CHS

  • JV Football: Clinton 24  – Broome 6… The Red Devil JV football team evened its sea on record at 1-1 last night as they defeated the Broome Centurions 24-6 last night at Wilder Stadium… Clinton led 12 -0 at the half and then score 12 more points in the third quarter before finally giving up 6 points to the Centurions in the final quarter… Caleb Richardson had TD runs of 55 and 80 yards for the Red Devils… The team will host the Powdersville Patriots next Thursday.
  • Varsity on the Road Tonight… The Red Devil varsity football team will be on the road tonight as they travel to Spartanburg to take on the Broome Centurions in a 7:30 contest… Broom is a familiar opponent to the Red Devils as they were in the same region for several years… Broome is 1-1 on the season as they defeated Pageland Central 46-14 in week 0 and fell to the Woodruff last week to Woodruff by a score of 48-12… I’m sure Coach Webb and the team would appreciate a large crowd of Red Devil fans there tonight cheering the team on… Go Big Red.

LDHS

  • C-Team Football: Spartanburg 24 – Laurens 6… The Laurens Raider 9th grade (C-team) opened up its season last night traveling to Spartanburg to take on the Vikings… The score is not what I like to report because despite their best efforts of the team they fell to Vikings by a score of 24-6… The Raiders lone score came on a 60 yard TD pass from Isaiah Pearson to Isaac Craig in the second quarter.
  • Raiders at Home Tonight… The Laurens Raider varsity football team will play host to the Myrtle Beach Seahawks tonight in a 7:30 contest at KC Hannah Stadium… The Raiders are coming of the win over Clinton last week and would like to make in two in a row but they face a stiff test from a Seahawk team that like to attack from the air with a junior quarter back Luke Doty who is a South Carolina commit… The Seahawks are 1-0 on the season having defeated Hanahan 37-30 last week… Our coverage starts about 6:05 tonight with the Friday Night Insiders program and after that we go live to press box at KC Hanna Stadium… I hope to see you at the stadium tonight to cheer on the Raiders but if not you can catch all the action here on Real Radio 860 and streaming live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

Pros … For more information on these games, click on their scores.

  • Cubs 5 – Braves 4… The Cubs and the Braves played last night in Atlanta making up a game that had been rained out earlier in the season… The news is not good for Braves fans as the Cubs took a 5-4 win… The Braves outhit the Cubs 9-6 but the Cubs got the clutch hits with runners in scoring position… Freddie Freeman had 2 hits including a triple and drove in 3 of the Braves 5 runs.
  • Rome Braves 5 – Drive 1… The Greenville Drive finished their series with the Rome Braves last night down in Rome, Ga with a 5-1 loss to the Baby braves… That gave the Braves a 3-1 of the 4 game series…The Drive only have 3 games left in their regular season and they start tonight at Flour Field as they host the Lexington Legends… The Drive and the Ashville Tourist are both 3 game behind the Legends who lead the second half of the SAL Southern Division Southern… If the Drive want a shot at the playoffs they must take care of the Legends this weekend in the final series of the season.
