CHS  

  • Broome 42 – Clinton 7… The Clinton Red Devils boarded the bus and traveled to Spartanburg last Friday night to take on an old familiar foe the Broome Centurions… The Red Devils kicked off to the Centurions and it only took them 2 plays to score as they took a 7-0 lead with 11:14 on the clock…The Red Devils then went 3 and out and after a short punt Broome took over on the Red Devil 43… This time it took only 1 play for the Centurions to score as they went up 14-0 with 9:18 left in the first quarter… The Red Devils responded with a 99 yard drive with Titus Hood carrying it the last 3 yards and Sam Tiller added the PAT to make it 14-7 just before the end of the first quarter… That would be as close as the Red Devils would get as Broome scored on their next possession and went on to take a 42-7 win over Clinton… Broome scored again before the end of the first half and two more in the 4th quarter… The Red Devils got down to the Broome 11 yard line in the 3rd quarter but turned the ball over on downs… The Red Devils also had 2 drive ending fumbles… The Centurions has 369 total yards of offense to Clinton’s 260… 215 of Clinton’s yards were rushing while Brome had 157 on the ground… Greg Sanders was the leading rusher for Clinton with 80 yards on 15 carries… PJ Bluford had all 4 of the Red Devil pass receptions for 45 yards…For quick stats on the game click on the following:  … Clinton travels to Powdersville next Friday to take on the Patriots.

  • Myrtle Beach 42 – Laurens 6… The Laurens Raiders hosted the Myrtle Beach Seahawks last Friday night and the news there than it was for the Red Devils as the Seahawks’ South Carolina commit Luke Doty led the Seahawks to a 42-6 win over the Raiders… Doty had 279 yards passing completing 22of 31 attempts with 3 of them resulting in TDs… The Seahawks mishandled the opening kickoff and got the ball at their own 1 yard line but 14 plays later he picked up the first of his passing TDs and the Seahawks never looked back… The Seahawks’ running back Jermani Green also had a good night rushing for 117 yds. and 3 TDs… The Seahawks punted only twice… The Raiders running attack was stymied by the Seahwak defense as it managed only 53 yds. on the night with Shamare Dendy getting 25 of them… Ryan Campbell managed 148 yards passing going 12 of 20 with one interception and 1 TD… Duane Martin caught the TD pass late in the 3rd quarter going 75 yards down the sideline after the catch… For quick stats on the game, click on the following:   … The Raiders host the Hillcrest Rams this Friday night.

Braves… The Braves and the Pirates got together for a 3-game series over the weekend at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta

  • Friday: Pirates 3 – Atlanta 2… On Friday the Pirates scored what would prove to be the winning run as they took a 3-2 win over the Braves… Both teams had only 7 hits but the Braves did commit 2 errors… Two of the Braves 3 hits came on solo homers by Johan Camargo (17) and Robert Acuna Jr (22).
  • Saturday: Braves 5 – Pirates 3… On Saturday the Braves snapped a 3-game losing streak by taking a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Pirates… The Braves scored 4 runs in the 8th inning and then held the Pirates scoreless in eh top of the 9th to take the win… Dansby Swanson picked up his 14th homer of the season in the decisive 8th inning.
  • Sunday: Braves 5 – Pirates 1… As the great orator Yogi Bera is reported to have said one time “it’s like déjà vu all over again” as the Braves once again scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to take a 5-1 win over the Pirates… A couple of Pirates errors and a wild pitch helped the Braves pick up those 4 runs in the 8th… Ronald Acuna Jr. picked up his 23rd homer of the season as he went deep leading off the 1st inning for the Braves…. The Braves start a 3 game series with the Boston Red Sox in Atlanta tonight.

Drive… The Greenville Drive hosted the Lexington Legends in their final series of the regular season… After a dismal first half of the season, the Drive rebounded in the second half and entering the start of the series on Friday they were just 3 games behind the Legends who were leading the SAL Southern Division as they started the 4-game series.

  • Friday: Legends 5 – Drive 4… On Friday the Legends pounded out 15 hits to the Drive’s 6 but they only won by a score of 5-4… The Drive trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the 7th inning where they scored 3 runs but just could not get any closer.
  • Saturday: Drive 9 – Legends 7… On Saturday the Drive rebounded to keep their playoff hopes alive as they took a 9-7 win over the Legends… The Legends outhit the Drive 13-11 but they also had 3 errors in the game to the Drive’s 1.
  • Sunday: Drive 7 – Legends 4… Yesterday the Greenville Drive scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and a total of 3 runs in the 3rd & 4th innings and then held on to take a 7-4 over the Lexington Legends as the Legends scored 4 runs in the 9th inning in an attempted comeback… The final game of the Drive’s regular season is tonight at Flour Field.

  • Clinton Family YMCA Youth Soccer… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA…  The YMCA will offer the following age groups/playing divisions: 3 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9 – 12… Registration fees are $50.00 for Y members; and $65.00 for Non-members… Financial Aid and assistance is available… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities….   • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, September 7th where the featured speaker will be Shell Dula, Executive Director of the SC Athletic Coaches Assoc.
  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of September
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
