Sports Report for Thursday, 9-6-2018

Local Notes

  • Tennis: Clinton 6 – Broome 0… The Red Devils girls’ tennis team was in action yesterday as they hosted the Broome Centurions… It was a good day for the Red Devils as they took a 6-0 win over the Centurions… Taking dominating wins in singles action for Clinton were Mary Catherine Dailey, Gerri Hill, Gracie Spangler, Kaitey Threatt and Rese Gowan… Only the #2 doubles team of Aaliyah Johnston and Mary Grace Johnson played and they defeated their opponents handily also… The team will be hosting BHP today at the home courts on the campus of CMS today at 5:00.
  • Volleyball: Ninety Six 3 – Clinton 1… The Red Devil varsity volleyball team traveled to Ninety Six to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday but I did not get the score until yesterday and I hate to have toe report that the Wildcats took a 3-1 win… The Wildcats won the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-14 but the Red Devils battled back to take the third set by a score of 25-20… However they just could not keep that momentum going as they fell in the fourth set by a score of 25-18 to give the Wildcats the 3-1 match win… The team will be back in action today as they travel to BHP.

  • Military Appreciation Night at K.C. Hanna Stadium… This Friday night the Raider football team will be honoring veterans and active duty military as they host the Hillcrest Rams… They will recognize this special group in pregame ceremonies and as part of this veterans and active duty military can get in to the game free with proper ID… For more information and specifics on this, click here.

  • Red Sox 9 – Braves 8… The Boston Red Sox used a 6-run 8th inning to erase a 7-1 Braves lead and then used a 2-run homer in the 9th inning to take a 9-8 win over the Braves and thus sweep the 3-game series from the Braves…  The two teams combined for 21 hits with the Red Six getting 11 of them… Freddie Freeman hit his 21st homer of the season and Ronald Acuna Jr had another lead-off homer for the Braves in the first inning to give him 24 homers on the season….The Braves start a westerly road trip tonight with eh first stop being in Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks.
