Local Notes

  • No Scores Reported… The Red Devil JV football team was scheduled to host the Powdersville Patriots last night but so far no score has been reported to me on that game… Likewise the CMS football teams were supposed to be in action yesterday and again I did not receive any score… Perhaps I can get them over the weekend.

Football… The Raiders C-team and JV teams traveled to Simpsonville last night to take on the Hillcrest Rams.

  • C-Team: Hillcrest 27 – Laurens 6… The C-team action, the news is not what I would like to report as Hillcrest took a 27-6 win over the Raiders… The Raiders only score came in the second quarter on a 50 yard run by Isaiah Pearson to tie the game at 6-6 but the Raiders just could not sustain a drive after that… The team falls to 0-2 on the season.
  • JV: Hillcrest 30 – Laurens 0… Now the news is no better where the JV team is concerned as the Raiders lost 30-0… Hillcrest scored single TDs in each of the 4 quarters and added the 2-point conversions on all except the 3rd quarter score…. The Raiders moved the ball but just could not finish drives… They are now 1-1 on the season.

Volleyball… The Raider volleyball teams hosted the Hillcrest Rams in non-region play yesterday at LDHS

  • V: Hillcrest 3 – Laurens 0… In varsity action the Rams took a 3-0 win over the Raiders… Set scores were 25-7, 25-21 and 25-4… According to Coach Fleming the Raiders struggled to get into a rhythm last night…. The team will travel to Hillcrest tomorrow to participate in a tournament.
  • JV: Hillcrest 2 – Laurens 0… In JV action prior to the varsity match, the Rams took a 2-0 win… Set scores were 25-20 and 25-6.

Middle School Football

  • Starr Iva 12 – GCO 0… The GCO Tigers traveled over into Anderson County to take on the Star-Iva MS team in the opening game for GCO… The game was tied 0-0 at the end of 3 quarters of play but Star-Iva put 12 points on the board to take a 12-0 win over the Tigers… According to Coach Hinson Hunter Brewington led the defense in tackles and Michael Swaney was the leading rusher.
  • LMS 32 – HT 8… The HT Panthers hosted the LMS Tigers last night and the Panthers had trouble holding on to the ball as they fumbled 6 times losing 4 of them and two of them resulted in LMS TDs as the Tigers defeated the Panthers 32-8… On the first play from scrimmage in the game, Jay Pulley rumbled 50 yards to put the Tigers up 6-0 as the extra point failed… The Panthers could not move the ball and were forced to punt at the end of their first possession and Cayson Elledge returned the punt for a 59 yard TD to put the Tigers up 12-0… The Panthers picked up their only score on the next play when Carter Faulkner hit Mason Hamby with a 64 yard TD pass… Isaac Adams bulled in the 2-point conversion… The Tigers scored one more time before the half when James Rawl hit Cayson Elledge with a 38 yard scoring strike to make it 18-8 at the half…  In the second half the fumble bug hit both teams as HT lost 4 fumbles and LMS one… The Tigers next score came when the Panthers fumbled at their own 3 yard line and Randall Cheeks picked it up and walked into the end zone for the TD to make it 24-7… HT fumbled on the 4th play of their next possession with Cheeks again recovering the ball at the Panther 37… Three plays later, Elledge ran it in from 27 yards out and James Rawl added the 2-point PAT to make it 32-8… The Panthers started to move the ball but again the fumble bug bit them as the Tigers recovered and ran out the clock.
