Local Notes… Checking on local high school results from last Friday night:

CHS

  • CHS: 47 – Powdersville 0… The Red Devil football team boarded the bus and headed up to Powdersville to take on the Patriots and I am sure the mood on the bus coming home was a lot better than the week before as the Red Devil took a 47-0 win over the Patriots to pick up their first win of the season… The Red Devil rushing attack found its footing against the Patriots as it amassed 242 yards and Konnor Richardson added another 113 through the air… Meanwhile the Red Devil defense pitched the shutout holding the Patriots to just 19 yards on the ground and 1133 on the ground… The defense set the tone at the beginning as Elijah Campbell intercepted a Patriot pass at the Red Devil 27 yard line and 6 plays later Konnor Richardson threw the first of his two TDs on the night this one a 61 yard scoring strike to Titus Hood and with Sam Tiller’s PAT the Red Devils were up 7-0 with 8:16 on the clock in the first period and the rout was on… The Red Devils would go on to score on their next possession, twice in the second and third quarters and once in the final quarter… Richardson’s second TD pass was a 37 yarder to BJ Bluford… Greg Sanders had 84 yards rushing and TDs while JyKorie Gary had 34 yards and 1 TD… Now for more information on the game click here to see to see a quick version of the game stats and scoring summary and click here to see a play-by-play accounting of the game… The Red Devils will host the undefeated Wren Golden Hurricanes this Friday.

LDHS

  • Hillcrest 42 – Laurens 24… The Laurens Raiders and the Hillcrest Rams battled each other last Friday night and except for a fumble returned for a TD during the Raiders first possession, the Raiders pretty much dominated the Rams in the first half as they led 17-14 at the end of the half… Each team scored a TD in the third quarter to make it 24-20 going into the final 12 minutes of play…. Those last 12 minutes were disastrous for the Raiders as the Rams score scored 22 unanswered points to take a 42-24 win… For 3 quarters the Raiders dominated the statistics except for the one fumble at the start of the game and they did lose another fumble which gave the Rams a short field to setup their second TD in the fourth quarter… Duane Martin led the Raiders ground attack with 102 yards on 20 carries and a TD… Shamare Dendy and Ryan Campbell also had rushing TDs for the Raiders… Devon Hubner also made his only field goal attempt of 20 yards… … Now for more information on the game click here to see to see a quick version of the game stats and scoring summary and click here to see a play-by-play accounting of the game… The Raiders fall to 1-3 and will host the wade Hampton Generals this Friday night as they start region action.

Laurens Academy

  • St John’s 66 – LA 12… The Laurens Academy Crusaders had to board the bus before noon last Friday to make the long trip down to the Monks Corner area to take on the St Johns Cavaliers… The ride back home probably seemed longer than the one going down as the Cavaliers took a 66-12 win… The Crusaders two scores came on a QB keeper by Thomas Lowry and the other on a long TD pass from Lowry to Cal Robertson… The Crusaders will host the King Academy Crusaders at Todd Kirk Field this Friday night.

Ware Shoals

  • Greenwood Christian 46 – WS 28…. The Ware Sholas Hornets hosted the Greenwood Christian Hawks at Tommy Davis Field last Friday night… The hawks jumped out to a 40-14 lead at the half and then went on to take a 46-28 win over the Hornets… The Hawks ground game amassed 338 yards with Brett Durham getting 163 of them on 6 carries… The Hornets managed only a net of 68 yards with Jermarius Goodman getting 78 yards on 7 carries. The Hornets Ben Webb had 173 yards passing with 2 TDs… His TD passes were to Evan Bridges and Goodman… Goodman also had a 54 yard TD run… The Hornets fall to 0-4 and will host Camden Military this Friday.
