Sports Report for Tuesday, 9-11-2018

PC Notes

  • Austin Peay 24 – PC 0… Austin Peay and PC had to wait for over an hour to start their game last Saturday up in Clarksville, TN last Saturday due to lightning in area and then had to endure a stoppage of play for just over an hour for the same reason and when the game finally ended the Governors had taken a 24-0 win over the Blue Hose in PC’s season opener… Now for complete game details, click here… The Blue Hose will host Stetson in their home opener at Bailey Memorial Stadium thus Saturday at 1:00 pm.

 

Local Notes… Let’s catch up on some scores from late last week that I did not get until last Friday or yesterday.

CHS  

  • Volleyball: BHP 3 – Clinton 0… Last Thursday the Red Devil volleyball team traveled to BHP to take on the Bears… The Bears proved they had some pretty good claws as they took a 3-0 win over the Red Devils… Set scored were 25-13, 25-18 and 25-10.
  • JV Volleyball: BHP 2 – Clinton 0… In action prior to the varsity, BHP took a 2-0 win over the Red Devils by set scores of 25-15 and 25-20… The Red Devil volleyball teams will travel to Union County today in region action that starts with the JV match at 5:30.
  • Tennis: BHP 4 – Clinton 2… Also last Thursday the Red Devil girls’ tennis team hosted the BHP Bears and the news is not what I like to report as BHP took a 4-2 win… The Red Devils only wins came in singles action as Mary Catherin Dailey and Reese Gowan defeated their opponents… For more details on this match click here… The team gets back into action today as they travel to Union for a 5:00 pm match with the Yellow Jackets.
  • JV Football: Clinton 48 – Powdersville 24… One last score from CHS last Thursday and that is a 48-24 win by the Red Devils over the Powdersville Patriots in JV football action at Wilder Stadium… Coach Glenn reports that Zek Johnson had an opening 60 yard kickoff return for the Red Devils… Kaleb Richardson, Danny Kinard and Nyker Sims each scored rushing TDs of 35, 2 and 20 yards respectively… Davis Wilson threw 2 TD passes one to Chris Walker (15 yards) and another to Javier Boys (25 yards)… CK Vance had 4 catches for 80 yards and Richardson and Vance both had pass interceptions…. The team is now 2-1 and will travel to Wren this Thursday.

 

LDHS

  • Girls Golf: Woodmont 229 – Laurens 230… The Raider girls’ golf team hosted the Woodmont Wildcats at Lakeside CC last Thursday and the Raiders fell by a single stroke as the Wildcats took a 229 to 230 win over the Raiders… Anna Gray Rowland shot a 49 t lead the Raiders…. That score was a personal best for her and was good enough to make her the match medalist… To see how the other Raiders did in the match, click here.

 

Middle School

  • 7th CMS 26 – Chesnee 14…. In action last Thursday at Wilder Stadium, the CMS 7th grade Wildcat football team broke a 14-14 tie at the half by scoring 12 unanswered points in the second half to take a 26-14 win over Chesnee MS… Sorry other details.… The team travels to GCO this Thursday for a 5:00 pm contest with the Tigers.
  • 8th CMS 42 – Mid-Carolina 30… The 8th grade Wildcat team was also victorious last Thursday as they traveled down to Prosperity and defeated Mid-Carolina MS 42-30… The Wildcats led 36-12 going into the final quarter where Mid-Carolina scored 18 points to the Wildcats 6 in a comeback attempt but the Wildcats would let them get no closer… The Wildcats will host Newberry this Thursday at 5:00 pm.
  • JET 44 – Sanders 8… Last Thursday the Sanders Yellow Jacket football team hosted Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton (JET) MS football team and fell by a score of 44-8… Sanders lone score came on a 75 yard kick return by Ty’Quavious Johnson… For a few more details on this game, click here.

Braves 4 – Giants 1…   The Braves started a 3-game series with the Giants out on the west coast last night with a 4-1 win over the Giants… Kurt Suzuki led the braves going 3-3 with an RBI…

  • Clinton Family YMCA Youth Soccer… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA… The YMCA will offer the following age groups/playing divisions: 3 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9 – 12… Registration fees are $50.00 for Y members; and $65.00 for Non-members… Financial Aid and assistance is available… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities….   • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, September 21st when the featured speaker will be Tommy Spangler, Head Coach of the PC Blue Hose football team..
  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of September
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
