PC Notes

  • PC vs. Stetson Cancelled… PC has had second thoughts about traveling to DeLand Florida to play Stetson and has now canceled the game. Their concern is getting the team back safely after Hurricane Florence’s track changed. PC will host Bluefield College next Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 pm.

CHS

  • Wren 45 – Clinton 0…  Well the Clinton Red Devils had a hurricane on their mind last night and it was not hurricane Florence off the coast of the Carolinas… it was the Golden Hurricane from Wren HS… While Florence is expected to make land fall as a category 1 or 2 storm the Wren Hurricanes came in as a category 45 storm as they defeated the Red Devils 45-0… Wren took the opening kickoff and went 65 yards in 4 plays to score with the TD coming on a 50 yard pass… With the PAT Wren led 7-0… Neither team was able to put points on the board in the remainder of the first quarter but Wren started a drive late in the first quarter that ended in the second quarter with Wren kicking a 31 yard field goal to make it 10-0 Wren… Wren scored two more TDs in the second quarter to make it 24-0 at the half… Wren added two more TDs in the third quarter one on a 79 yard punt return to make it 38-0 going into the final quarter of play… Wrens final TD in the fourth quarter came on a 50 yard pick-six thrown by Kimon Quarles… The Red Devils to their credit did not give up as they were driving when the clock ran out as they had the ball at the Wren 5 yard line when the game ended… In addition to the interception, the Red Devils had two fumbles which were drive-killers…. Wren manages 356 total yards of offense to Clinton’s 144 yards… 240 of Wren’s yards were passing while 128 of Clinton’s were rushing…To see the game’s Quick Stats click here…  To see the play-by-play account of the game, click here…The Red Devils fall to 1-3 while Wren goes to 4-0… The Red Devils will travel to Pendleton next Friday to take on the Bulldogs in their last non-region game of the season.

 

LDHS

  • Laurens 35 – Wade Hampton 10… The Laurens Raiders opened up region play last night as they hosted the Wade Hampton Generals… Both the Raider offense and defense found their stride last night as the Raiders took a 35-10 win… The Generals won the toss and elected to receive and after three plays they had lost 5 yards… The Raiders received the punt and then went 55 yards in 11 plays with Ryan Campbell scoring the first of his 2 rushing TDs on the night… The defense held the Generals to 3 and out and the Raiders scored again and never looked back… The Raiders led 28-0 at the half and the Raider defense had held the Generals to -1 yard of offense in the first half as they were in the Generals backfield on about every play either bringing the running backs down for a loss of hurrying the Wade Hampton quarterback… The Raiders wound up with 369 yards of total offense to the General’s 104…. Campbell led the team in rushing with 96 yards and the 2 TDs….Duane Martin had 88 tough yards and 2 TDs… The Raiders other TD was scored by Cade Thompson… The raiders go to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in region play while the Generals fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in region play…To see the box score of the game, click here… To see the individual stats on the game, click here… To see the play-by-play account of the game, click here… The Raiders travel to Greenwood to face the eagles next Friday night.

 

Laurens Academy

  • LA 36 – WW King 0… The Laurens Academy Crusaders hosted the Knights of WW King last night at Todd Kirk Field and its good news for Crusader fans as they picked up their first win of the season defeating the Knights 36-0… The Crusaders got on the board in the first half on a 35 yard run by Thomas Lowry with Diamonte Grant tacking on the 2-point conversion making 8-0 which was the score at the half… Lowry scored again in the third quarter on a 5 yard run but the extra point failed making it 14-0… Lowry scored one more time in the third quarter this time on a 25 yard run with the extra point failing making it 20-0 going into the fourth quarter… Thomas had one more rushing TD in the fourth quarter and then completed a TD pass to  Charlton McCall and that coupled with a couple of successful 2-point conversions made the final 36-0… Lowry wound up having to play on defense and had an interception… The Crusaders host Calhoun Academy next Friday.

  • Braves… The Braves were off last night and will start a homestand tonight with the Washington Nationals being the first team into Sun Trust Park.

  • Clinton Family YMCA Youth Soccer… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA… The YMCA will offer the following age groups/playing divisions: 3 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9 – 12… Registration fees are $50.00 for Y members; and $65.00 for Non-members… Financial Aid and assistance is available… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities….   • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, September 21st when the featured speaker will be Tommy Spangler, Head Coach of the PC Blue Hose football team..
  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of September
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
