Local Notes

CHS  

  • Tennis: Clinton 6 – Newberry 1… After having a couple of matches postponed due to weather the Lady Red Devil tennis team got back into action back on Tuesday as they traveled down to Newberry to take on the Bulldogs… Good news here the Red Devils won 6-1… Taking wins in singles action were Mary Catherine Dailey, Gracie Spangler, Kaitey Threatt and Reese Gowan… M.C. Dailey and G. Spangler teamed up to form the #1 doubles team and they also defeated their opponent… The #2 doubles team composed of Mary Grace Johnson and Gracie Wiggins also were victorious. … The team will be back in action today as they host the Emerald Vikings at 5:00 pm at the tennis courts on the campus of CMS.
  • Volleyball: Clinton 3 – Newberry 2… Also on Tuesday the Red Devil volleyball teams traveled down to Newberry to take on the Bulldogs… It was a hard-fought match that went the distance but in the end Clinton took the 3-2 win… The Red Devils started the match by winning the first two sets by scores of 27-25 and 25-22… The Bulldogs rebounded and took the next two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-19… This forced the match into the 5th and deciding set where the Red Devils regained to momentum taking the set by a score of 15-7 thus winning the match.
  • JV: Clinton 2 – Newberry 1… Now in action before the varsity down at Newberry, the JC team also picked up a win as they defeated Newberry 2-1… Newberry won the first set by a score of 25-18 but the Red Devils came back to win the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-18… The volleyball teams will host Emerald tonight starting at 5:30.
  • Other Sports on the Schedule TodayJV football vs. Pendleton at Wilder Stadium, 8th Grade football at Edgewood MS (96 HS) at 5pm, 7th Grade football at HT at 5 pm on Real Radio 860 WLBG.

 

LDHS

  • Tennis: Laurens 4 – Easley 3… Back on Tuesday the Lady Raider tennis team traveled to Easley to take on the Green Wave and the ride back home was a happy one as the Raiders picked up their first region win as they defeated Easley 4-3… Picking up wins in singles action were Anna Jenkins and Becky Brownlee… The #1 doubles team of Abby Davis and Anna Jenkins also picked up a win as did the #2 doubles team of Kelsie Little and Skylar Douglas also picked up a win for the Raiders… For more match details and comments from Coach Youmans, click here…. The Raiders are back in action today as they host Wade Hampton starting at 5:00 pm.
  • Other Sports on the Schedule Today… Golf at Easley at 4:30 (Smithfield’s CC)… CMS 7th at HT (on Real Radio 860 WLBG, LMS football host Westview MS at 5 pm, GCO football host Ware Shoals MS at 5 pm… Freshman & JV football host Greenwood starting at 5:30

  • Braves 7 – Cardinals 3… The Atlanta Braves avoided being swept in their 3-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday afternoon as they took a 7-3 win over the Cardinals also breaking their 4-game losing streak… The Braves used 2 homeruns to help power them past the Cards… Tyler Flowers had a solo home in the 8th inning and Freddie Freeman had a 2-run home in the 4th inning… Freeman also led the Braves at the plate going 3 for 3… The Braves now start their final home series of the regular season tonight as the Phillies come to town for a 4-game series… This series is a key series not just because it is the last home series of the regular season for the Braves but also because the Braves lead the Phillies by 5.5 in the NL East and they could cement their division lead with a good showing against the Phillies here. .. The Braves magic number is down to 6.

  • Clinton Family YMCA Youth Soccer… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA… The YMCA will offer the following age groups/playing divisions: 3 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9 – 12… Registration fees are $50.00 for Y members; and $65.00 for Non-members… Financial Aid and assistance is available… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities….   • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, September 21st when the featured speaker will be Tommy Spangler, Head Coach of the PC Blue Hose football team.
  • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of September
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
