Local Notes

CHS

  • JV Football: Clinton 22 – Pendleton 20… In what sounds like a great game over at Wilder Stadium last night, the Red Devil JV football team defeated the Pendleton Bulldogs 22-20… According to Coach Glenn the two teams battled hard for 4 complete quarters with Clinton stopping the Bulldogs from scoring on their last drive to preserve the win… For the Red Devils Danny Kinard had 2 rushing TDs and Clinton’s other score was a TD pass to Nyker Sims from Davis Wilson… The will now host Union County nest Thursday at 6:00 opening up region play.

LDHS

Sub-Varsity Football… The Raider C-Team and JV football teams played host to the Greenwood Eagles last night at KC Hanna Stadium.

  • C-Team: Laurens 24- Greenwood 17… In the first game of the evening, the Raiders took a 24-17 win in a game that went back and for the… The raiders fumbled on their first series of the game which the Eagles eventually converted into a 27 yard field goal to go up 3-0…. The Raiders then answered with a 95 yard TD run by Zy Todd to go up 6-3… Greenwood countered with a long TD run of their own and with the PAT went up 10-7… Just before the half ended the Raiders pulled of the old hook and ladder play they resulted in a 30 yard TD by Todd to go up 12-10 at the half… Greenwood scored at the end of their first possession of the second half to back on top by a score of 17-12… The Raiders countered on their next possession to go up 18-17 on a 57 yard TD run by ZY Todd… Late in the game the Raiders put some insurance points on the board as Todd again scored on a 32 yard run to make it 24-17… With win the C-Team improves to 1-2 on the season.
  • JV: Greenwood 21 – Laurens 0… In JV action, the news is not as good as the Eagles took a 21-0 win over the Raiders… Greenwoods first TD came in the second quarter when they scored after a 32 yard drive that was set up by a bad snap t Laurens punter which he had to fall on giving the Eagles a short field which they capitalized on… Their next score came with just a couple of minutes left in the first half when they returned a Laurens punt 62 yards d=for the score and with the PAT the score stood 14-0 at the half. There was no further scoring until about a minute left in the game when Greenwood picked of a Raider pass and carried it in for the pick=six… The raiders were able to move the ball but penalties and miscues seem to hit them at the most inopportune but they never stopped trying even down to the final horn… The team’s record now stands at 3-2 on the season…. The Raider teams will be at home next Thursday as they host the Westside Rams.

  • CMS 7th Grade 20 – Hickory Tavern 16… The CMS Wildcat 7th grade team picked up a come-from-behind 20-16 yesterday over the Panthers of Hickory Tavern up at HT yesterday…  HT opened the scoring on the first drive of the game when Carter Faulkner capped a 52 yard drive with a 2-yard TD run… Mason Hamby added the 2-point conversion and HT lead 8-0with 4:44 showing on the clock… At the end of their 2nd possession of the game, the Wildcats capped a 50 yard drive with a 2yard TD pass from Bryce Young to Ke’Laeja Byrd… The PAT failed so the score stood 8-6 Panthers which is where the score stood at eh half… The Wildcats opened the second with a 61 yard drive the last 78 yards were covered on a TD pass from Young to Zay Johnson… Again the PAT failed and the Wildcats led 12-8…  On the first play of their next possession, the Panthers QB Mason Hamby found some room down the left sideline and rumbled for a 7 yard TD with carter Faulkner adding the 2-point conversion to make the score 16-12 Panthers late in the 3rd quarter…  A couple of possessions later the Wildcats took the lead for good on a 48 yard scoring strike for Young to Zane McClendon… He then found Zay Johnson in the corner of the end zone to make the score 20-16 with 1:03 left in the game… The Panthers never quit but on the second play of the next possession they fumbled and the Wildcats recovered to dash all hopes of the HT comeback… The fumble bug caused HT problems yesterday as they fumbled 5 times losing 4 of them.

Pros … For more information on these games, click on their scores.

  • Braves 8 – Phillies 3… The Braves used a 4-run 8th inning to lift them to an 8-3 win over the Phillies at Sun Trust Park… The Braves win and Phillies loss make the Magic Number for clinching the NL east is 4 meaning any combination of wins by the Braves and losses by the Phillies that totals 4 will give the Braves the title… The 3 home games with the Phillies this weekend are the last 3 home games of the regular season as the Braves close out the regular season next week on the road.
