Sports Report for Tuesday, 9-25-2018

PC Notes

  • PC 41 – Bluefield 10… The Blue Hose football team used a 21 point second quarter to take a 28-10 lead at the half and then go on to defeat the Bluefield College Rams 41-10 ay Bailey Memorial Stadium last Saturday night… The Blue Hose offense had 459 yards of total offense 249 yards of which were through the air… The Blue Hose defense held the Rams to just 231 yards of total offense 125 of which were on the ground… Zola Davis finished 108 yards rushing and scored a TD… John Walker completed 16 of 25 pass attempts and threw 3 TDs but did have one interception… For more information on the game, click here… The team record is now 1-1 on the season returns to Bailey Memorial Stadium Thursday night against Lindsey Wilson College with kick slated for 7:00 p.m.

  • JD Payne Selected for Elite Camp… Congratulations are due to Red Devil senior basketball player JD Payne as he was recently selected to attend the SC Basketball Coaches Association’s (SCBCA) Elite Camp on October 13, at the Ben Lippen School in Columbia… This is an invitation-only event for the top 100 players in South Carolina…. Payne averaged 15.1 points per game last year, with a season high 31 points versus Laurens… He was voted team MVP by his teammates, and he was selected as All Region, All County, and the All County MVP. .. Cross Country Teams in Action This Past Weekend… The Raider cross country teams participated in the Lakelands Invitational at Greenwood HS this past Saturday.

  • Girls Finish 11th… The Lady Raider cross country team finished in 11th out of 17 teams on Saturday. The Raiders had their best race of the season. ..The Lady Raiders were led by Zoey Sward who had a career best time of 23:37… For more information on this match including the times for the other Raiders, click here.
  • Boys Finish 9th… The boys had their best race of the past 3 yrs. on Saturday… Evan Prince again led the way for the boys with an impressive and career best time of 16:36. College Notes

  • Division I AP Poll… The latest AP Div.-I football poll had no change in the top 4 spots this week… The top 4 continue to be Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Ohio State… Spots 5 & 6 did swap places as LSU is now #5 and Oklahoma is #6… Spots 7 & 8 continue to be held by Stanford and Notre Dame in that order… Penn State moves up a couple of spots to #9 and Auburn drops a spot to #10… To see the entire top 25 listed in the AP Poll click here.

  • Clinton Family YMCA Youth Soccer… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA… The YMCA will offer the following age groups/playing divisions: 3 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9 – 12… Registration fees are $50.00 for Y members; and $65.00 for Non-members… Financial Aid and assistance is available… The YMCA will not deny anyone the opportunity to participate in its youth sports activities….   • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, October 5th when the featured speaker will be Gary Patterson, ACC Official and Referee.
  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….   • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of September
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
