Local Notes


  • Cross Country… The Red Devil cross country teams were in action this past Saturday at the Lakeland Invitational held at Connie Maxwell Orphanage Oasis Farm and hosted by Greenwood HS…. In girls’ action, the Red Devils finished 11th out of 17 teams that participated… Paige Trent finished 6th overall with a time of 21:26… The boys’ team also finished 11th out of 20 teams that participated… The Red Devils were led by Eric Newton who finished 23rd overall with a time of 18:04…. Now the Red Devils also had their JV boys team participating and thy finished 4th out of 16 JV teams there… Javier Carles led the JVs with a time of 21:40… Now if you click here it will find more information about how other members of the cross country teams did.




  • Girls Golf… The Lady Raider golf team was in action back on Monday as they participated in the Lady Eagle Invitational down at the Links at Stoney Point… The Raiders finished 8th with a score of 463… Anna Gray Rowland led the Raiders with a score of 89… This score was not only her personal best but also the lowest score posted by a Lady Raider since 2011… To see what the other Raider team members shot, click here….  The team returns to action tomorrow as they travel back down to the Links at Stoney Point to take on the Lady Eagles of Greenwood HS.
  • Fan Bus to Westside this Friday Info… The Laurens District 55 Transportation Department will be taking a Fan Bus to Westside this Friday night… The bus will leave from in front of LDHS at 6:00 pm sharp… The cost for the ride will be $6.00… Once you get there you will still have to purchase you game ticket… Avoid the hassle and ride the bus!
  • Newest Raider… Congratulations to Coach Patterson and his wife Erin on the birth of their daughter Mackenzie Lynn Patterson… Big brother Brayden finally got to meet his sister.


Middle School Volleyball

  • HT 3 – GCO 0… Back on Monday night the GCO volleyball team travelled to HT to take on the cross county rival… The HT Panthers prevailed in this match as they took a 3-0 win… Set scores were 25-18, 25-14 and 25-16… Now for more details on this match, click here.
  • CMS 3 – Southside Christian 1… Also back on Monday night the CMS Wildcat volleyball team traveled up to the Simpsonville area to take on the Southside Christian Sabers… Southside won the first set 28-26 but the Wildcats bounced back winning the next 3 sets by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-13 to take a 3-1 win… The team travels to Newberry today.

  • Braves 7 – Mets 3… After taking Monday night off, the Atlanta Braves got back into action last night as they started a 3-game series with the Mets in New York… The Braves trailed 3-0 going into the top of the 7th inning where thy put 4 runs on the board to take the lead and then added 3 more runs in the 8th to take a come-from-behind 7-3 win over the Mets… The Braves pounded out 10 hits to the Mets 6 and one of the Braves hits was a 2-run homer by Ozzie Albie (24) in the 8th inning.

  • Friday – 9-28-18 – Varsity football Laurens at Westside, Friday Night Insiders about 6:06 and live about 6:35… If you carry your FM radio you will be able to hear our in-stadium transmitter on either 96.5 or 96.7 on you FM dial…. Should one of those not work we will try 88.9 or 87.9… We’ll just have to see which is best when we get there.

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, October 5th when the featured speaker will be Gary Patterson, ACC Official and Referee.
  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….   • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of September
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
