  • 9th Grade Football: Westside 29 – Laurens 13… The Raider 9th grade team played host to the Westside Rams last night at KC Hanna Field and the ride back to Anderson most likely seemed shorter than the one coming over for the Rams as they took 29-13 win over the Raiders… The Raiders received the opening kickoff but fumbled on the third play from scrimmage and it was scooped up and returned 60 yards for a TD by the Rams… With the PAT the score stood 7-0 with 8:10 left in the opening quarter. Later in the quarter Isaac Craig picked off a Ram pass at the Raider 9 yard line. The first plat lost all the way back to the Raider 1 yard line and the next snap from center was high and could not be handled so it went out the back of the end zone for a safety making it 9-0 Westside scored twice more in the half and the Raiders offense just could not get going so they trailed 22-0 at the half… The Raiders held the Rams on their first possession of the second half and then drove down the field 67 yards and scored on a 2-yard run by Zy Todd… Brian Sheffield added the PAT to make it 22-7… Laurens held the Rams on their next possession but disaster struck on the second play from scrimmage as Laurens quarterback had a pass picked off and returned 27 yards for a pick-six and with the PAT Westside was up 29-7 with 3:48 left to play in the game… The Raiders never quit as they then took the ball and went 70 yards scoring with 52.3 seconds left in the game on a 57 yard pass play from Isaiah Pearson to Jayden McGowan… The 2-point PAT failed ant the score stood 29-13… The Raiders competed to the final buzzer as Tye Roberson intercepted a Ram pass as time ran out.
