Local Notes

Clinton vs. Laurens in Cross Country… Yesterday the Red Devil and Raider cross country teams faced off against each other out at The Trails at Lake Rabon… Remember like golf, in cross country the lowest score wins.

  • Girls: Clinton 23 – Laurens 36… In girls’ action the Red Devils prevailed by a score of 23-36… The Red Devils Page Trent was the overall winner finishing the course in just 23:15 and edging out her teammate Dorothy Trent who finished just 16 seconds behind (23:31)….   • Boys: Clinton 24 – Laurens 32… Now the boys’ portion of the meet was much closer but the Red Devils still prevailed by a score of 24-32… The Raiders Evan Prince had the fastest time finishing in 14:46… For the Red Devils Billy Hogarth was the top runner finishing in 19:45… To see how the top 5 runners Clinton did and comments from Coach Atkinson, click here… To see how the top 5 Laurens runners were and their times click here.



  • Tennis: Clinton 6 – Broome 0… Back on Monday the Lady Red Devil tennis team traveled to Broome to take on the Centurions in non-region action… Good news here for Red Devil fans as the team took a 6-0 win over the Centurions… Mary Catherine Dailey, Gerri Hill, Gracie Spangler, Reese Gowan and Kaitey Threatt all took win in singles action… Only the #2 doubles team composed of Mary Grace Johnson and Gracie Wiggins played and the defeated their opponents… For more details on this match, click here.



  • Lady Raider Golf Team Finishes 7th in Region… Catching up with the lady Raider golf team which was in action back on Monday as they traveled to Cobbs Glen CC in Anderson to participate in the Region I-AAAAA Tournament… The Raiders as a team finished 7th in the tournament but one Raider did qualify for the 5A Upper State Tournament to be played October 15th at Waterford CC in Rock Hill… That Raider is Anna Grace Rowland who led the Raiders at the region tournament with a 112… Other lady Raiders who [participated and there score were Bailey Carder 114, Madison Wilson 156, and Bryson Cruickshanks 164


Laurens Academy

Volleyball…  The Crusader volleyball teams traveled down to Greenwood Christian Monday night to take on the Hawks so let’s catchup on how they did.

  • V: LA 3 – GC 0… In varsity action the Crusaders took a 3-0 win over the Hawks… Set scores were 25-8, 25-8 and 25-21
  • JV: LA 2 – GC 0… In JV action the Crusaders were once again victorious as the won the match 2-0 with set scores of 30-28 and 25-12.
  • MS: GC 2 – LA 1… And finally the middle school team was also in action against the Hawks and it was the only team to fall to the Hawks as they lost 2-1… Sorry no other details.
  • Schedule Note… Thursday’s volleyball matches at Wardlaw Academy have been canceled due to a scheduling conflict. The varsity game has been rescheduled to Monday, October 15 at 4 PM. The middle school game will not be rescheduled

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, October 5th when the featured speaker will be Gary Patterson, ACC Official and Referee.
  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….   • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of October
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
