  • Woodmont 34 – Laurens 20… Meanwhile the Laurens Raiders were hosting the Woodmont Wildcats a team they had never lost to in a game that also could help or hurt their playoff chances… When the final horn sounded Woodmont had taken its first win over Laurens by a score of 34-20 and the Raiders playoff chances took a hit but are not gone…As in recent weeks turnovers proved to be the Raiders Achilles heel as they Raiders fumbled 6 times losing 3 of them and had a pass intercepted… The Raiders actually got on the board first on a 98 yard TD run by Shamare Deny and with Devon Hubner’s PAT the Raider led 7-0 with 4:44 left in the 1st quarter… Woodmont responded returning the ensuing kickoff to the Raider 24 yard line… 2plays later they scored and tied the game 7-7… On their next possession the Wildcats took the lead for good as they scored on a 66 yard run to make it 14-7 still in the first quarter… The Raiders then fumbled on their next two possessions which gave the Wildcats a short field and they took advantage of it scoring 13 unanswered points to go up 27-7 at the half… The Wildcats running game pretty much ran at will in the first half but the Raiders adjusted at halftime and just about shut it down in the second half… After another Raider fumble gave them a short field late in the 3rd quarter the Wildcats scored for the last time and went up 34-7… On their next possession the Raiders went 77 yards in 12 plays scoring on 3 yard run with 10:58 left in the game… Hubner’s PAT was blocked so the score stood 34-13… The Raiders held the Wildcats on their next possession and then went 54 yards in 4 plays and scored on a 23 yard run by Duane martin… Hubner’s PAT made it 34-20 with 7:43 left in the game… Woodmont was able to run 3:53 seconds off the clock before punting to the Raiders at the end of their next possession… The Raiders saw their hopes dashed on the next possession when facing a 4th and 9 at the Raider 41 Ryan Campbell was sacked for a 9 yard loss and the Wildcats then ran out the clock… To see abbreviated stats on the game, click here…. Laurens Academy

  • Richard Winn 57 – LA 18… The Laurens Academy Crusaders were also at home last Friday night for Homecoming facing the Eagles of Richard Winn and actually led early on an 8yd. pass from Thomas Lowry to Diamonte Grant with the extra point failing… That is the last time the Crusaders would lead as the Eagles took a 57-18 win over the Crusaders… The Eagles forged ahead taking a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter… The Crusaders scored again on an 89 yard TD pass from Lowry to Charlton McCall in the 2nd quarter but the Eagles also had multiple scores takin a 50-12 lead at the half… The Crusaders’ last score came on a 5yard pass from Lowry to Will Jones… The Eagles had 26 players to the Crusaders 12 so fatigue became a factor on a warm night in the second half… The Crusaders fall to 2-5 on the season and will be on the road this Friday night as they travel to Jefferson Davis Academy in Blackville.
