Sports Report for Tuesday, 10-9-2018

PC Notes

  • Kennesaw State 56 – PC 0… Last Saturday the Blue Hose football team traveled to Kennesaw State to take on the #3 ranked Owls… The Owls showed they deserved that ranking as they took a 56-0 win over the Blue Hose… They led 28-0 at the half and added 21 more in the 3rd quarter… They dominated PC in every statistical category and had 637 yards of offense (485 rushing) to PC’s 141 total with 123 of them coming through the air… For more on this game click here… The Blue Hose return to Bailey Memorial Stadium this Saturday for a 12 p.m. kickoff against future Big South foe Hampton. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

CHS… Catching up on some scores from late last week.    

  • JV Football: Clinton 32 – Mid-Carolina 6… Last Thursday the Red Devil JV football team traveled down to Prosperity to take on the Mid-Carolina Rebels… In case you haven’t heard good news for Red Devil fans as the team took a 32-6 win over the Rebels improving their record to 4-2 on the season… Danny Kinard led the team with 3 rushing TDs… For more information about this game and comments from Coach Glenn, click here.
  • Tennis: Clinton 7 – Newberry 0… Also last Thursday the lady Red Devil tennis team hosted the Lady Bulldogs of Newberry HS… Some more good news here as Clinton took a 7-0 win to run their record to 6-4 on the season… For complete match details, click here.
  • Volleyball… The CHS volleyball teams hosted Newberry last Thursday night and I’m sorry to report the coach has not reported the varsity score… I can tell you that in JV action Newberry took a hard fought 2-1 win winning its second and deciding set by 1 point (10-9)… For more details on this match click here.

 

 

LDHS… Catching up on some scores from late last week.    

  • Freshman Football: Laurens 24 – Landrum 6….Last Thursday the Raider 9th Grade football team hosted the JV team from Landrum HS… Good news for Raider fans as the team took a 24-6 win… Zy Todd led the Raiders with 3 TD runs… For more details on this game click here.
  • Volleyball: JL Mann 3 – Laurens 0… Also last Thursday the raider volleyball teams hosted the Patriots of JL Mann on Cancer Awareness Night… The news is not good for Raider fans as the Patriots took a 3-0 win in varsity action… For details on this match and comments from Coach Fleming click hereJV: Mann 2 – Laurens 0… In JV action prior to the varsity, the Patriots were also victorious as they took a 2-0 win… For match details click here
  • Tennis: JL Mann 7 – Laurens 0… One last score from last Thursday, the Lady raider tennis team traveled to JL Mann and lost by a score of 7-0 to the Patriots… Sorry no details on the match.

 

Laurens Academy

  • Volleyball… Last night the Crusader volleyball teams hosted the Hawks of Greenwood Christian Academy… Good news for Crusader fans as all three teams took wins over the Hawks… The middle school team started things off with a 2-0 win and the JVs followed taking a 2-0 win over the Hawks also… In varsity action the Crusaders completed the sweep taking a 3-0 win.
  • Track… Last Thursday the Crusader cross country teams hosted a meet for the first time ever and it took place out at the Laurens County Park… Girls: Good news for Crusader fans as the girls’ team took first in the meet followed by Laurens and Dixie… Blair Quarles finished first overall with a time of 25:49 and Zoey Sward of LDHS finished second with a time of 26:13… To see complete girls’ match results click here… In the boys’ portion of the meet the Crusaders finished 5th behind Laurens which finished first… Andrew Codington had the best time for the Crusaders as he finished the course in 26:22… To see complete boys’ match results click here

  • Dodgers 6 – Braves 2…  The Atlanta Braves saw their season come to an end last night as the Dodgers defeated the Braves 6-2 at Sun Trust Park to win the NL Division Series 3 games to 1… The Braves led early 2-1 but the Dodgers went ahead 3-2 with a pair of runs in the 6th inning and then added 3 insurance runs in the 7th on a 3-run homer by   their shortstop Manny Machado… The Dodgers will face the Milwaukie Brewers this Friday in the first game of the NL Championship Series… The Braves finish the season with a record of 91-75 (90-72 in the regular season).coming off a season where their record was just about the opposite and they were not expected to finish anywhere near the top of the NL East which they won.

  • Friday – 10-12-18 – Laurens travels to JL Mann in an important region contest if the Raiders want to make the playoffs.… Friday Night Insiders about 6:06 and live about 6:35… Greenville is a tough place to find a vacant frequency but if you carry your FM radio you should be able to hear our in-stadium transmitter on 87.9, 88.9 or 106.7 on you FM dial I will have to see which one is best when I get there.

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, October 19th when the featured speaker will be Hunter Reid Associate AD / SID at Furman University. .
  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….   • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of October
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
