Sports Report for Wednesday, 10-10-2018

Schedule Changes… Hurricane Michael has caused some schedule changes as schools are trying to get games in ahead of its arrival… All of the following are contest that I have been told about that were scheduled for tomorrow but have now been moved to today:

  • CMS 7th grade football hosting Southside Christian at 5:00 pm
  • CMS 8th grade football hosting Whitmire has been canceled
  • CHS JV football hosting Newberry @ 7:00 pm (as soon after 7th grade finishes as possible)
  • Laurens MS hosting Wright MS @ 5:30
  • Hickory Tavern at Mid-Carolina @ 5:00 pm

Local Notes

CHS  

  • Tennis: Clinton 7 – Emerald 0… Back on Monday the Lady Red Devil tennis team traveled to Greenwood to take on the Emerald Vikings and the ride back was a short one as they defeated their region foe 7-0 … Mary Catherine Dailey, Gerri Hill, Gracie Spangler, Katy Threatt and Reese Gowan all took wins in singles action… Dailey and Hill also teamed up to form the #1 doubles team and defeated their opponents as did the #2 doubles team made up of Mary Grace Johnson and Gracie Wiggins… For complete match details click here The team is scheduled to travel to Woodruff today weather permitting.
  • Volleyball: Emerald 3 – Clinton 0… Also on Monday the Red Devil volleyball teams traveled to Emerald… The news is not as good here as the Vikings took a 3-0 win over the Red Devils… Set score were 25-15, 25-23 & 25-13… JV: Emerald 2 – Clinton 1… In JV action prior to the varsity, the Red Devils won the first set 25-22 but just could not maintain the momentum as Emerald won the next two sets by scores of 26-24 & 15-11 to take a 2-1 win.

 

LDHS

Cross Country… The cross country teams traveled to Ware Shoals yesterday…. Remember low score wins.

  • Boys: Laurens 20 – Ware Shoals 70… The Raiders were led by Evan Prince. Prince was followed by Luis Brenna, Jaden Rice, Jackson Edwards, and Murphy Rush
  • Girls Win… The Lady Raiders Cross Country team finished first Tuesday night at Ware Shoals High School. The Lady Raiders were led by Vanessa Harshaw 25:15. She was followed by Zoey Sward 25:24, JaNayiah Jones 25:42, Dani Prince 31:14 and Madison Villa. The Raiders placed 1st ahead of Ware Shoals and Palmetto Christian.

 

Laurens Academy

Volleyball

  • Monday… Catching up on Crusader volleyball, Monday the Crusader volleyball teams hosted the Hawks of Greenwood Christian Academy… Good news for Crusader fans as all three teams took wins over the Hawks… The middle school team started things off with a 2-0 win and the JVs followed taking a 2-0 win over the Hawks also… In varsity action the Crusaders completed the sweep taking a 3-0 win.
  • Yesterday… The Crusader volleyball teams traveled down to WW King yesterday to take on the Knights in their final road matches of the season… Middle School… First in middle school results, the Crusaders took a 2-0 win with set scores of 25-18 and 25-20… The win allowed the team to clinch the region championship… Congratulations to the middle school team… Varsity… In varsity action the news is also good for Crusader fans as the team took a 3-0 win over the Knights… set scores were 25-13, 25-9 & 25-14… With the win the varsity stays undefeated in region play… The teams return home to play Newberry Academy tomorrow in the last games before the region tournament to be held this Saturday at Laurens Academy.

  • Friday – 10-12-18 – Laurens travels to JL Mann in an important region contest if the Raiders want to make the playoffs.… Friday Night Insiders about 6:06 and live about 6:35… Greenville is a tough place to find a vacant frequency but if you carry your FM radio you should be able to hear our in-stadium transmitter on 87.9, 88.9 or 106.7 on you FM dial I will have to see which one is best when I get there.

  • The Laurens County Touchdown Club has a full set of meetings scheduled to help celebrate high school football in Laurens County… The Club meets every other Friday at The Ridge with the meetings starting at noon… For more information about the TD Club including schedule, how to join and videos of the past meetings click here… The next meeting will be Friday, October 19th when the featured speaker will be Hunter Reid Associate AD / SID at Furman University. .
  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….   • Free Softball Clinics on Mondays… Don’t forget that LDHS softball Coach Michaela Smith will conducting free softball clinics for girls in grades 2-6 on Monday nights to help the young ladies in District 55 improve their softball skills and learn the proper fundamentals in a fun environment… Come to the LDHS softball field starting at 7pm and the clinics will conclude about 8:00 pm…. Clinics are scheduled to run each Monday from now through at least the end of October
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration will open September 17th for Fall Teeball and Fall Softball… Registration for both will end on October 21st and there will be NO late registration….
