Local Notes

Area Football Tonight:

  • Clinton… The Red Devils are at home tonight for a very important game hosting the Emerald Vikings… The reason it is so important is that Clinton must win to get into the playoffs and if they lose they are out… Both teams come into the game with identical 2-6 overall records and 1-2 in region play… Emerald is coming off a 52-14 loss to the Woodruff Wolverines at Woodruff and Clinton is coming off the loss last week at Newberry… Hope the Red Devil fans will come out to cheer the team on.
  • Laurens… The Laurens Raiders are on the road tonight traveling to Anderson to take on the undefeated Yellow Jackets of TL Hanna… Hanna comes into tonight’s game ranked #3 in the state in Class AAAAA…. Hanna has defeated very opponent this year by at least 3 TDs and more often than not by more than that… Laurens will have to play a near perfect game tonight to defeat the Yellow Jackets and have to get a couple of breaks… If you carry your FM radio you should be able to pick up our in-stadium transmitter on one of the following frequencies: 96.5, 88.9 or 89.7… I will have to see which is best when I get there but try them in that order.

CHS

  • JV Football: Clinton 28 – Emerald 6… This game took place in Greenwood and again I do not have any other details at this time.

LDHS… The Raider 9th grade team and the JV team hosted the Yellow Jackets of TL Hanna last night at KC Hanna Stadium.

  • 9th: Hanna 35 – Raiders 0… In 9th grade action TL Hanna scored the first time they got the ball and by the half they had a 28-0 lead and then went on to take a 35-0 win over the Raiders… The Raider offense simply could not get on track all night and Hanna made very few mistakes.
  • JV: Laurens 12 – Hanna 7… Now there is better news where the JVs are concerned as they took a 12-7 win over Hanna… Unlike the 9th grade game Hanna did make several mistakes and had several turnovers and penalties that hurt them… The Raiders two scores came in the first half when Jeramiah Miller scored a 4 yard TD and KK Hamilton scored a 2 yard TD both set up by Hanna mistakes… Keshard Davis had a pass interception for the Raiders and Cole England had a fumble recovery… TJ Norris had a key sack on 4th down to help stop a Hanna drive.

Laurens Academy

  • Wardlaw 60 – LA 12… The Laurens Academy Crusader traveled to Wardlaw last night to take on the Patriots who have a traditionally strong football program that won the SCISA championship last year and were 6-2 coming into last night’s game… The Crusaders got on the board first on a 30 yard pass play from Thomas Lowry to Charlton McCall to go up 6-0… That would be the last time they led as the Patriots led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and 36-12 at the half as they went on to take a 60-12 win over the Crusaders… The Crusaders other score was a second TD pass with about 4 minutes left in the first half when Lowry again connected with McCall… The Crusaders close out their regular season next Friday at home against a team made up of players from Newberry Academy, Cambridge Academy and Palmetto Christian Academy.

Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens…. For more information on this including how you can join the team, click here… Please consider joining, I have.
