Local Notes

CHS

  • Tennis: Clinton 4 – Mid-Carolina 2… Catching up with the Lady Red Devil tennis team last Thursday they hosted the Mid-Carolina Rebels hoping to avenge a loss to the Rebels earlier in the season… Well that is just what they did as Clinton took a 4-2 over the rebels… Gerri Hill, Gracie Spangler, Kaitey Threatt and Reese Gowan accounted for the 4 Red Devil wins in singles action… With the win, the Red Devils finish 2nd in Region III-AAA… The team will be back in action tomorrow as they host a first round playoff match with Chesnee at 5:00 pm on the courts on the campus of CMS.
  • JV Football Update… Last Friday I told you that the Red Devil JV football team had taken a 28-6 win over Emerald in Greenwood on Thursday night but I did not have any scoring details… Well I can now tell you that Danny Kinard, Kaleb Richardson and Davis Wilson all had a rushing TD in the game… Zek Johnson also scored a TD on a pass reception from Davis Wilson an also caught a 2-point conversion … Kinard also added a 2-point conversion on the ground… Afterwards Coach Glenn said “Our kids played hard and gave great effort tonight… We were able to execute and make plays when we needed them made… I’m extremely proud of the way they were able to bounce back after a tough loss Monday night, they came out hungry for a win”.

  • Crusaders Volleyball in State Tournament… The Laurens Academy Crusader volleyball team was down in Myrtle Beach participating in the SCISA Class-A Volleyball Tournament… The Crusaders took on Conway Christian in the 1st round on Friday and defeated Conway 2-0 by set scores of 25-12 & 25-13… In the 2nd round they faced Beaufort Academy and defeated Beaufort 25-21 in the first set… However Beaufort came back and took the next two sets by scores of 26-24 & 25-18 to drop the Crusaders into the losers’ bracket… The Crusaders then took a 2-0 win over Charleston Collegiate by set scores of 25-9 & 25-5… The win put the Crusaders back in the winners’ bracket where they faced off against Wardlaw… The Crusaders won the first set by a score of 25-22… However the Crusaders could not maintain the momentum and dropped the next two sets by the same score 25-15… That eliminated the Crusaders from the tournament but they are still to be congratulated on a great season that included the Region Championship!

Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….
