Temporary Sunday Alcohol Sales Approved

Laurens County voters yesterday approved permitting Temporary Sunday Alcohol Sales in the unincorporated areas of the county. The Referendum was approved with just over 55% of voters. The unofficial totals last night showed 10,961 “Yes” votes and 8,894 “No” votes.

Laurens County voters said no to a statewide referendum asking if we want the State Superintendent of Education to be appointed by the Governor, instead of being elected. Statewide, the change was rejected by 60.7% of voters. In Laurens County, 65.42% voted “No.”

Statewide, current Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman was re-elected. Laurens County supported her with 67.51% of the local vote.
