Armed Robbery Arrest

An Armed Robbery in Laurens this past summer was alleged with the arrest of a Clinton man yesterday. Laurens City Police charged 27-year-old Markell Dontue Simmons of 107-B Bluford Street, Clinton with Criminal Conspiracy, Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Warrants cited an investigation of Detective Bryant Cheek state that on August 18th of 2018 Mr. Simmons planned and schemed with others to accomplish the crime of Armed Robbery to deprive the Family Dollar at 102 Fleming Street of money. Simmons then, on the same date, allegedly committed the violent act of Armed Robbery to deprive the Assistant Manager of the Family Dollar of cash money, while armed with a hand gun at 102 Fleming Street. The third warrant specified the possession of the hand gun during the Armed Robbery.

Markell Dontue Simmons remained in the Johnson Detention Center overnight, awaiting a bond hearing.

He is also facing other charges. Bench Warrants from Laurens County General Sessions Court were served on Markell Dontue Simmons yesterday. They state that on September 17th of this year he failed to make his required initial appearance before the court regarding charges of 2nd Degree Burglary and Petit Larceny.
