Rock Hill 51 – Laurens 30… It was the best of times and it was the worst of time is how a famous piece of literature starts and that could also be said of the Raiders vs. Bearcats game last Friday night at Rock Hill in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs… The Raiders jumped up 9-0 in the first quarter and then both teams battled to a 30-30 tie at the half as the Raiders played arguably their best half of football this season taking t to the Bearcats… However the worst of times came in the second half as the Bearcats scored 21 unanswered points to take a 51-30 win over the determined Raiders.

  • First Quarter… Laurens got on the board first as they held the Bearcats in the first series of the game forcing them to punt… The snap sailed over the head of the Rock Hill punter and he kicked it out of the back of the end zone giving the Raiders a two points on the safety… The Raiders then scored on their first possession on a 21 yard pass from Ryan Campbell to Jackson Mahon with Devon Hubner adding the PAT to make it 9-0 Raiders… Duane Martin stopped the Bearcats on their next possession with an interception but the Raiders could no convert that into points as they were forced to punt… Rock Hill then got on the board on a long pass play to make it 9-7… The Bearcats tied the game when the Raiders fumbled into the end zone but covered it giving the Bearcats the safety to tie the game 9-9… Rock Hill scored on their next possession to make it 16-9 Bearcats with 1:27 left in the first quarter… The Raiders responded immediately with Jordan Woodruff carrying the ball 65 yards on the second play of the series to the Rock Hill 1… Duane Martin scored on the next play and with Hubner’s PAT the score was tied with 26 seconds left in the opening quarter.
  • Second Quarter… The second quarter started with Rock Hill scoring making it 23-16 Bearcats… The Raiders again immediately responded going 70 yards in 5 plays with Campbell taking it in from 12 yards out and Hubner again added the PAT tying the game at 23 all… The big play in the drive was a 48 yard pass from Campbell to Deonja Brown on a third and 8 situation…. After holding Rock Hill on their next series, the Raiders scored what prove to be their final points when Duane martin capped a 48 yard drive with a 7 yard TD run and Hubner’s PAT made it 30-23 Raiders with 2:46 left in the half… Rock Hill managed to tie the game just before the end of the half on a 70 yard pass to tie the game 30-30 at the half…
  • Third and Fourth Quarter… The Bearcats were able to score the first time they had the ball in the third quarter on a pass play while the Raiders saw their drives stall… The Bearcats then scored early in the fourth quarter and again late in the quarter to make the final score 51-30…
  • Stats… The Bearcats had 507 yards of total offense with 307 of it coming through the air… The Raiders had 390 yards of total offense with 251 of those yards coming on the ground… Jordan Woodruff finished with 97 yards leading the Raiders with Duane Martin getting 81 and Ryan Campbell 67… To see a quick version of the stats click here and to see a play by play accounting of the game click here…. The Bearcats will host Gaffney this Friday in a second round playoff game as the Indians took a 26-14 win over Woodmont

Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens…. For more information on this including how you can join the team, click here… Please consider joining, I have.
