  • GBK: LA 47 – SD 41… The Lady Crusaders opened up the defense of their state title on Friday on a positive note as they took a hard-fought 47-41 win over the Lady Griffins… The Crusader broke out strong in the first quarter as they led 17-6 at its end largely due to Ruthie Moore’s 13 points in the quarter… The griffins would come back in the second quarter and outscore the Crusaders 18-10 to make the score 27-24 Crusaders at the half… The Crusaders came back out of the locker room in the third quarter and outscored the Griffins 12-6 to take a 39-30 lead into the final 8 minutes of play… The Griffins did not make it easy on the Crusaders as they attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter outscoring the Crusaders 11-8 but Crusaders got clutch baskets from Blair Quarles and Jennifer Wu as well as hit a couple of free throws to preserve the win… Moore finished the night with a game-high 18 points and Wu was also in double-digits with 13 points… Others scoring for the Crusaders were Quarles with 9 while Florence Mitchell, Morgan Marlette & Hanna Stribling all finished with 2 points… Regan Williams rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
  • BBK SD 58 – LA 41… Last year Spartanburg Day seemed to always have TV cameras around when they played as everyone was trying to keep up Zion Williamson as he tore through the competition… Those cameras have now moved on to follow him up a Duke… However the Griffins still have a good team without him and they proved that Friday by taking a 58-41 win over the Crusaders… The Griffins outscored the Crusaders in each of the first two quarters and led 27-12 at the half… The Crusaders did come out after the half and cut into the Griffins lead as they outscored the Griffins 15-12 in the 3rd quarter… Noah Moore had 8 of his 19 points in the quarter… The Griffins would then outscore the scrapping Crusaders 19-14 in the 4th quarter to take the 58-41 win… As mentioned before, Noah Moore had 19 points to lead the Crusaders in scoring and Diamonte Grant also was in double-digits with 11 points… Dawson Foster finished the game with 8 points, Charlton McCall 2 and Luke Kerber 1.

Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens…. For more information on this including how you can join the team, click here… Please consider joining, I have.
