Sports Report for Tuesday, 11-20-2018

PC Notes:

  • FB: Wofford 45 – PC 21… The PC football team traveled up to Wofford last Saturday to close out their season… The Blue Hose actually led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter but the Terriers then scored 38 unanswered points to take the win… For more information on this game, click here…. PC finishes their season with a 2-8 record while Wofford moves to 8-3 on the season.

CHS:

  • GBK: Clinton 55 – Batesburg-Leesville 27… The Lady Red Devil basketball team opened their season last night as the team played host in the Zaxby’s Pre-Season Tournament… The Red Devils faced Batesburg-Leesville in the second game of the night… The Red Devils jumped out to a 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back as they went on to take a 55-27 win… Not only did the Clinton offense have a good night but the defense did as well as they forced numerous B-L turnovers….No Red Devil scored in double digits and the team was led in scoring by Tanel Evans who had 9 points and Dana Kinard & Savanna Campbell who had 8 each…Others scoring for the Red Devils were Aaliyah Johnston 4, De’Shanti Watts 7, Payton Price-Walker 2, Serenity Baker 4, Terriauna Bennett 7, Tinique Austin 6, Quiana Suber 6 and Adaija Darby 2…. The Red Devils will be playing for the Tournament championship tonight about 7:30 as they take on Brashier Middle College who defeated Palmetto in the first game last night.

 

 

LDHS:

  • BBK: Laurens 65 – Monticello 30… The Raiders boys’ basketball team opened up their season last night as they traveled up to Spartanburg to participate in the 2018 Impact sports Invitational at Spartanburg Day School…. They faced off against the Hurricanes of Monticello HS out of Georgia and it was a great start to their season as they took a 65-30 win… They started out the game taking a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and then held the Hurricanes to 10 points or less in each of the remaining quarters as they went on to take a 65-30 win… The Raiders had 3 players scoring in double-digits and they were Dra Copeland with a game-high 20 points, Leonard Williams 14 and Amaiji Hill 10… Christian Anderson finished with 7 points, Dee Foster 5, J’Von Harris 4, JQ Fair 3 and Ced McDowell 2…. The team will be back in action tonight at 8:30 as they take on the winner of last night’s game between Hillcrest and SCA
  • GBK: BHP 48 – Laurens 47… The Lady Raiders were in action in the Lady Bears Tip-Off Tourney at BHP as they took on the home BHP Bears and fell to the Bears 48-47 in a comeback that fell just a little short… BHP jumped out to a 17-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 30-19 at the half… The Raiders trailed 42-31 going into the fourth quarter and started cutting into the Bear lead getting down to 1 point with just under a minute left to play but could get no closer… The Raiders big problem was at the free throw line where they only made 12 of 28 shots…Raniya Jackson was the only Raider in double digits with 15 points… Qua Fortson finished with 9 points, Hanna Wiles 6, Kay Moore 5, Nadia Anderson & Lamoria Allen 4 each, and both Paula Abrams and Ashanti Conway finished with 2 each… The team will be back in action today at 6;00 pm as they take on Pendleton who lost to Greenwood 39-28 in the first game last night

 

Laurens Academy: The Laurens Academy Crusaders were also in action last night as they hosted the Wardlaw Patriots…

  • GBK: LA 46 – Wardlaw 20… In girls’ varsity action last night, the Crusaders ran their season record to 2-0 as they took a 46-20 win over the Patriots… By the time the first half was over the Crusaders led 31-13 and then held the Patriots to just 2 points in the third quarter as they scored 13 and went on to take a 46-20 win over the Patriots… Jennifer Wu led the team with 20 points and Ruthie Moore was also in double digits with 10 points… Florence Mitchell and Morgan Marlette each scored 4 points and Sara Grace Natiello, Emily Abercrombie, Julia Kerber and Hannah Stribling each had 2 points.
  • BBK: LA 53 – Wardlaw 50…  Now the news is also good where the varsity boys are concerned as they took a 53-50 win over the Patriots… The Crusaders had a narrow 14-11 lead after the first quarter and the two teams played about equal the rest of the way… The Crusaders did lead 38-32 going into the final quarter and held on for the win…Charlton McCall led the Crusaders with 14 points and Diamonte Grant was right behind with 13… Dawson Foster finished with 9 points, Thomas Lowry 8, Noah Moore 7 and Luke Kerber 2… The Crusaders will not be back in action until after Thanksgiving.

 

Middle School Basketball Results from the Turkey Tip-Off Tournament at HT last Night.

  • G: GCO 42 – LMS 19
  • G: Sanders 24 – HT 12
  • B: Sanders 37 – HT 8
  • I did not get a final report on the LMS – GCO boys’ game but LMS had a substantial lead when I had to leave at halftime.

  • Laurens YMCA Cocoa & Cookies With Santa and Reindeer Run… On Friday, December 7th the Laurens Family YMCA will be holding its Cookies and Cocoa PJ Party with Santa… The event will start at 5:00 pm and run until 9:00 pm…The cost is $7 per person and for more information about this event, click here…On Saturday the 19th Annual Reindeer Run will take place starting at 9:00 am and a Fun Run will start at 9:45… There are registration discounts for registration by November 20th and also registration discounts based on the size of teams… To find out the specifics of that information, how to register and other details click here… If you need more information about either of these call the Laurens Family YMCA at 864-984-2626
  • The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is Now Accepting Nominations for the Class of 2019… The 2019 induction ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 6:30pm at The Ridge at Laurens. This ceremony will feature the third class of inductees in the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame… Nominations for the 2019 class opened on November 1, 2018 and will remain open until December 15, 2018… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.com… For more information about the criteria a person must meet to be considered, present members of the Hall of fame and who to contact for more information, click here.
  • Youth Basketball & Cheerleading Registration Open at Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open for youth basketball and cheerleading at the Clinton Family YMCA until December 11th… Age groups will be 5 – 6, 7 – 8, 9 – 10, 11 – 12, 13 – 15 and ages 9 – 12 for Girls in ‘Youth Basketball’ and for grades K – 6 in Cheerleading…. Team assignment Fall-out will be on Tuesday, December 18th for all age groups and cheerleading… Something new this year is that the first 100 basketball participants that register and pay by the December 11th deadline will receive a FREE Spalding indoor/outdoor regulation basketball upon registration….   • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… At this time there is no registration for any sports… The next registration will be for basketball and it will start December 1st.
  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens….
