Local Notes:

CHS:

Basketball… The Red Devil varsity basketball teams were on the road last night as they traveled up to Chapman HS to take on the Panthers

  • Girls: Clinton 61 – Chapman 54… In the girl’s game the Red Devil according to Coach John Gardner had a bad half as missed easy shots and ran into foul trouble… Because of that they found themselves trailing the Panthers 25-20 at the half… However the second half was a different story as they played better and outscored the Panthers 24-17 in the 3rd quarter and 17-12 in the Final quarter to take a 61-54 win… The Red Devils were led by DeShanti Watts who had 22 of her game-high 33 points in the second half… Savannah Campbell was also in double-digits with 10 points… Others scoring for Clinton were Taneal Evans with 9 points, Terriauna Bennett 5 and Peyton Price-walker 4…. The team is now 3-0 on the young season.
  • Boys: Chapman 79 – Clinton 73…  I hate to have to tell you but the news is not as good where the boys are concerned as the Red Devils fell 79-73… Clinton led 41-32 at the half and extended the lead to 65-53 going into the 3rd quarter of play… In that final quarter as Coach Eddie Romines put it “we just let it get away” as the Panthers outscored the Red Devils 26-8 to take the win…. The Red Devils were led in scoring by JD Payne who had a game-high 34 points. Two other Red Devils were in double-digits with Davis Wilson scoring 14 and Ahmari Bates 13… Other scoring for Clinton were PJ Bluford with 4 points, Elijah Campbell 3, Sam Tiller 2, Titus Hood 2 and Kimon Quarles 1… The varsity teams will be back in action tomorrow as they host the Laurens Raiders… The JV teams will travel to Laurens today with the girls’ game starting at 6:00 pm.

Blackout for Cancer Friday Night… This Friday night when the Red Devils host the Raiders in varsity basketball action they will be having a Blackout for Cancer Night… Not only are they asking Red Devil fans to come dressed in black but the Clinton teams will also have special black uniforms… They will be doing several things help raise money for the Laurens County Cancer Association one of which will be a 50/50 raffle… For more information about all they will be doing click here.

Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens…. For more information on this including how you can join the team, click here… Please consider joining, I have.
