Local Notes:

CHS:  Last night the Red Devil varsity basketball teams traveled to Ninety Six to take on the Wildcats in their last games before the holiday break.

  • Girls: Clinton 57 – Ninety Six 37… For the second time in less than a week the Red Devils defeated the Wildcats this time by a score of 57-37… The Red Devils led by 7 after 8 minutes of play (11-4) and by 14 (27-13) at the half and then went on to take the win… Coach Gardner said it was a “solid game” by his team… De’Shanti Watts led the Red Devils with a game-high 14 points… Danah Kinard and Terriauna Bennett were also in double-digits with 12 points… Savanah Campbell scored 6 points, Tinique Austin 4, Peyton Price-Walker 3, and both Taneal Evans and Latoria Johnson chipped in 2 points each… The Red Devils are now 9-0 on the season and return to action on December 27the when they take on Timberland in the Atlantic Division of the Carolina Invitational down in Charleston.
  • Boys: Ninety Six 67 – Clinton 47… Now the news is not as good where the boys are concerned as Ninety Six avenged an earlier loss to the Red Devils by taking a 67-47 win… Sorry but Coach Romines did not send me any other details,

Middle School Basketball:

Brewer at Laurens Middle School… Last night the LMS Tigers hosted the Brewer MS Bulldogs.

  • Girls: Brewer 38 – LMS 6… Last night the very young LMS girls team had trouble getting their offense in gear against the Bulldogs as the Bulldogs held them scoreless in the first half and then went on to take a 38-6 win over the Tigers… Tekaria Williams, Kali Spurgeon and Syberia Byrd each had 2 points for the Tigers…
  • Boys: Brewer 37 – LMS 23… The Bulldogs completed the sweep of the Tigers last night by taking a 37-23 win over the Tigers… This game was closer than it sounds until the fourth quarter… It was 17-13 at the half Bulldogs and 25-23 Bulldogs at the start of the fourth quarter… In the last 6 minutes of play the Tigers simply had too many turnovers, could not hit free throws and just could not get the shots to drop as they were held scoreless… Devon Redd led the Tigers with 13 points… The Tigers are now 5-2 on the season.

Clinton MS at Whitmire… Back on Tuesday night the CMS Wildcats traveled to Whitmire to take on the Wolverines.

  • Girls: CMS 26 – Whitmire 13… In girls action the Lady Wildcats took a 26-13 win over the Wolverines… They led 12-6 at the half and then went onto take the win…Anna Litzenberger led the Wildcats with 10 points…. The team is now 3-2 on the season.
  • Boys: Whitmire 33 – CMS 31… Now the news is not as good where the boys are concerned as the Wolverines took a 33-31 win over the Wildcats knocking them from the unbeaten ranks… Coach Cooper told me the Wildcats were up by 7 at one point but just could not close it out… sorry no information on scorers… The team is now 4-1 and the Wildcat will be back in action tonight as they host the Gray Court-Owings Tigers.

  • A Team of 1,000” Fundraising Campaign… Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS) with the support of Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) is launching a Team of 1,000 athletic fundraising campaign. LDHS hopes to raise $55,000 to contribute towards the wishes of the athletic programs. Any funds raised will not supplant existing funding from LCSD 55 but we want to enhance the pride and possibilities inherent in our athletic programs… The funds raised will go toward ensuring adequate resources for travel to camps, scrimmages, and other activities that improve student-athlete performance but may stretch the regular season travel budget… The different coaches are compiling a “wish list” of items they would like to see the monies go toward… If you would like you to be a part of our Team of 1,000. Just a $55 gift from each member of our Team of 1,000 will help us reach our goal of $55,000. By donating to the Team of 1,000 fundraising campaign, you are helping the student-athlete experience; you are also joining many others in a commitment to athletic excellence in Laurens…. For more information on this including how you can join the team, click here… Please consider joining, I have.
