  • Clinton 1977& 1978 State Championship Teams To Hold Reunion…. Players from the 1978 Clinton High School State Championship Football Team will celebrate their 40th anniversary of winning the 3A State Championship on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the House of Pizza in downtown Clinton SC at 2:00 pm…  Also, Clinton High’s 1977 undefeated 3A State Championship Football Team is also invited to celebrate the only teams in Clinton High Football history and the first team in Laurens County Football history to win back to back State Championships…  The 1977 team was also the #1 team in the State (all classification including 4A and what’s now called 5A)…If you are a former player from the 1977 and/or the 1978 team(s), please plan to attend and RSVP Dale Adams at 864 377-1536 or Keith Wooten at 864 980-7828 or Anthony Henderson at 864 684-8246 or JD Fuller at 803 466-3343…  If you know members of these two teams, please pass this information on to them.

 

College Notes:

Yesterday’s Bowl Games… In case you missed some of the scores from yesterday’s college bowl games I thought I would give you a quick recap of them here… If you click on the name of the bowl and the score at the start of each of the following, it will carry you to the NCAA posting where a recap, box scores, scoring, team stats and play-by-play of the game are available.

  • Outback Bowl: Iowa 27 – Mississippi State 22… Iowa carried a 17-0 lead into the locker room at the half and then held on to take a 27-22 win over Miss. State… An interception in the end zone helped preserve the win for the Hawkeyes who had 199 yards of total offense and -15 yards rushing
  • Citrus Bowl: Kentucky 27 – Penn State 24… The Kentucky Wildcats carried a 27-7 lead into final quarter of play and then they had to hold on to take a 27-24 win over the Nittany Lions of Penn State… Running back Benny Snell Jr. had 144 yards rushing and 2 TDs to lead the Wildcats and in the process became Kentucky’s career rushing leader.
  • Fiesta Bowl: LSU 40 – UCF 32… In the Fiesta Bowl the University of Central Florida Knights took and early 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter but the LSU Tigers outscored them 24-10 in the second and third quarters to come back and take a 40-32 win… LSU quarterback Joe Burrow had 394 yards passing and 4 TDs to lead the Tigers
  • Rose Bowl: Ohio State 28 – Washington 23… Ohio state carried a 28-3 lead into the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl yesterday but then had to hold on as the Washington stormed back scoring 20 points to make the final 28-23… The Buckeyes recovered an onside kick to seal the win… The win sent Urban Myers into retirement with an 83-9 record at Ohio State with one national championship.
  • Sugar Bowl: Texas 28 – Georgia 21… Now for those of you who did not stay up past midnight to see the end of the final bowl game yesterday, Texas took a 28-21 win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl… Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger rushed for 64 yards on 21 carries but scored 3TDs for the Longhorns… He also threw for 169 yards to be the game’s MVP.

Conference Records in Bowl Games So Far… Doing a quick check of how the D-I football conferences are doing in bowl games this season you find that the SEC has a 6-5 record and the AC has a 5-5 record… If you are the true college football junkie who likes to keep track of this sort of thing, click here and it will carry you to a posting that shows the bowl record of each of the D-I conferences and who the winners and losers were in each conference….   • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration is now open for youth basketball for ages 3-6… The cost is $40 per child and registration will close 1-6-2019 with the season starting the next day.
  • Baseball Winter Camp… The Raider Baseball program will be hosting a one-day baseball camp on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 11:00am-2:00pm… This camp will be held in the Main Gym at Laurens High School, as well as our indoor batting facility… The camp fee is $30/camper. If you have more than one child participating, each additional camper will be $20. This camp is being offered to anyone who is in 1st-8th grade. Campers will get the opportunity to practice and learn basic baseball fundamentals from the Raider Baseball coaches and players… For more information about his camp including what to bring, where to come to register that day, time to be there, who to contact for more information as well as the application form you will need to fill out, click here… Please email Coach Patterson if you plan on coming so they will know how many to expect….
