Sports Report for Tuesday, 1-8-2019

PC Notes:

  • WBK: Campbell 51 – PC 46… The Lady Blue Hose traveled up Buies Creek, NC last Saturday to take on the Campbell Camels in the Big South opener for PC… PC led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter but Campbell outscored the Blue Hose in the second quarter 20-6 to take a 28-19 lead into the locker room at the half… PC outscored the Campbell 27-23 in the second half but they just could not get any closer… Kacie hall led the Blue Hose in scoring with 16 points… For more information on this game, click here… PC drops to 2-10 on the season and 0-1 in Big South play while Campbell goes to 9-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play… The team will be back in action tonight as they host Longwood in a 6 pm contest at the Templeton Center… For background information on tonight’s game, click here.
  • MBK: PC 64 – USC Upstate 61… The PC men’s team also opened up Big South play last Saturday as they hosted the Spartans of USC Upstate at the Templeton Center… Better news here for PC fans as PC took a 64-61 win… The Blue Hose had 3 players in double-digits as François Lewis finished with 16 points, Corey Hightower 13 and Adam Flagler 10… For more information on this game, click here… Presbyterian College wins its third in a row to improve to 9-7 overall and 1-0 in the Big South, while USC Upstate falls to 5-11, 0-1 on the year…. The Blue Hose travel to High Point Thursday for a 7:00 pm tip-off against the Panthers. 


Local Notes:

CHS:  The Red Devil JV teams traveled down to Prosperity last night to take on the Mid-Carolina Rebels.

  • Girls: Mid-Carolina 28 – Clinton 23… In girls action the red Devils had over 20 turnovers and missed too many layups thus allowing the Rebels to take a 28-23 win… Alexis McGowan finished with 7 points and Grayson Taylor had 5 points to lead the Red Devils.

LDHS: The Laurens Raider sub-varsity teams traveled to Woodmont last night for 3 contests with the Wildcats.

  • JV Girls: Woodmont 30 – Laurens 16… In the JV girls’ game the Wildcats took a 30-16 win over the Raiders… The Wildcat only led 11-9 at the half but outscored the Raiders in the third and fourth quarters to take the win… Angel Johnson led the Raiders with 7 points… Navia Blanding finished with 4 points, Jamya Chappell 3 and Cederia Bailey 2.
  • 9th Grade: Laurens 45 – Woodmont 35… Waldrick Burnside led the scoring for the Raiders with 11 points.
  • JV Boys: Laurens 42 – Woodmont 35… Isaiah Burnside led the Raiders in scoring with 19 points.


Wrestling… The Raider wrestling team traveled to West Oak HS to participate in the West Oak Invitational last Saturday… As a team the Raiders finished they finished 8th  out of 16 team there with 86 points… Individually Austin James finished second in his weight class and Will Pontoon finished fourth in his…. Middle School Basketball:

The Gray Court-Owings Tigers hosted the Mid-Carolina Rebels last night.

  • Girls: Mid-Carolina 36 – GCO 22… The Rebels held the Tigers scoreless in the first quarter and then went on to take a 36-22 win over the Tigers… Dayzhia Grant led all scorers as she had all 22 of GCO’s points.

College Notes:

Congratulations to the Clemson Tigers and their fans as the Tigers put an old fashioned fanny whipping on Alabama winning the FBS National Championship last night by a score of 44-16… To go to the Clemson Athletic website where they have most everything you might want to know about the game last night, click here.

  • Clinton 1977& 1978 State Championship Teams To Hold Reunion…. Players from the 1978 Clinton High School State Championship Football Team will celebrate their 40th anniversary of winning the 3A State Championship on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the House of Pizza in downtown Clinton SC at 2:00 pm… Also, Clinton High’s 1977 undefeated 3A State Championship Football Team is also invited to celebrate the only teams in Clinton High Football history and the first team in Laurens County Football history to win back to back State Championships… The 1977 team was also the #1 team in the State (all classification including 4A and what’s now called 5A)…If you are a former player from the 1977 and/or the 1978 team(s), please plan to attend and RSVP Dale Adams at 864 377-1536 or Keith Wooten at 864 980-7828 or Anthony Henderson at 864 684-8246 or JD Fuller at 803 466-3343… If you know members of these two teams, please pass this information on to them.
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration is now open for youth basketball for ages 3-6… The cost is $40 per child and registration will close 1-6-2019 with the season starting the next day.
  • Baseball Winter Camp… The Raider Baseball program will be hosting a one-day baseball camp on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 11:00am-2:00pm… This camp will be held in the Main Gym at Laurens High School, as well as our indoor batting facility… The camp fee is $30/camper. If you have more than one child participating, each additional camper will be $20. This camp is being offered to anyone who is in 1st-8th grade.
