Early Morning Armed Robbery

Laurens Police delivered an Armed Robbery suspect to the Johnson Detention Center at 5:00 yesterday morning, alleging an early morning theft at gunpoint. 26-year-old Randy Burnside Jr. of 48 Bradley Lane, Gray Court was charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Sgt. Sellers and Officer Van Pelt initially responded to the Rack-n-Roll at 758 East Main at 1:35 am on a report of a break-in in progress, where two subjects were reportedly observed attempting to break into gaming machines in the building. On arrival officers reported observing two subjects flee from a side door of the building, wearing gloves and face masks. After a chase onto neighboring properties, one of the subjects, identified as Randy Burnside, was apprehended. EMS was called after he complained of being unable to breathe. After a visit to hospital, Burnside was jailed.

Back at the scene, officers located someone inside the building, who indicated he had been held-up at gunpoint as the subjects forced him to open a cash register, taking $1,500. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office at the scene reportedly located a handgun on nearby property, where the suspects had been observed. A K-9 officer was bought in to track the suspect who remained at large.

A suspicious vehicle was found parked nearby at the Flowers Bread loading dock. Officers contacted the owner, a Pelzer woman, who reportedly indicated her boyfriend, Mr. Burnside, had borrowed her car earlier in the evening. She reportedly said he had been accompanied by a cousin. The vehicle was seized as the investigation continued.

In warrants served later yesterday, Laurens Police Detective Bryant Cheek states that on January 8th Burnside committed the violent act of Armed Robbery on a victim, who was an employee at Rack-n-Roll, depriving him of cash money at 758 East Main. Detective Cheek notes the Armed Robbery was accomplished with possession of a deadly weapon, the handgun.

During arraignment yesterday, a $20,000 cash or surety bond was set on the weapons charge. Bond was denied on the Armed Robbery warrant. Randy Burnside Jr. remains in the Johnson Detention Center.
