New Members & New Leadership at County Council

Two new members took their places and leadership changes were also made during the first Laurens County Council meeting of the year. Last evening’s meeting saw newly-elected members Jeff Carroll and Kemp Younts participating in their first meeting.

The first order of business was election of Council leadership, which always follows elections. This process was chaired by County Attorney Sandy Cruickshanks. Council Member Joe Wood, who has been chair the past several years, nominated Dr. David Pitts as Chair of Council. Pitts was elected by his fellow council members. He nominated Past-Chair Joe Wood as Vice-Chair and council voted approval.

Chairman David Pitts congratulated outgoing Chair Joe Wood, thanking him for his service in that position. Pitts had the audience honor the outgoing chair with applause. Councilman Wood recounted some of the events of council during his term as char, saying he did the best he could for the county.
