Local Notes:

CHS:

  • JV Basketball at Home Today… The Red Devil JV basketball teams will be at home today hosting the Newberry Bulldogs… The girls’ game starts at 6:00 pm.

LDHS:

  • Sub-Varsity Basketball at Greenwood Today… The raider sub-varsity basketball teams will be traveling to Greenwood today to take on the Eagles… The JV girls will start the action at 5:30…

 

Laurens Academy:

Updates on basketball action Tuesday at WW King

  • Varsity boys: LA 57 – WW King 23… The Crusaders jumped out to a 32-17 lead at the half and then put the game out of reach by outscoring the Knights 17-2 on the third quarter and then going on to take a 57-23 win…. Noah Moore led the Crusaders with 15 points 9 of them from beyond the 3-point line… Dawson Foster finished with 14 points, Charlton McCall 10, Cal Robertson 6, Diamante Grant 5 and Sunny Kin 2… The Crusaders will travel to Newberry Academy tomorrow to take on the Eagles.
  • MS Boys: LA 22 – WWK 19… Sauls 12, Miller  2, Gross  5

 

  • Lowry Makes All-State Team… Recently the High School Sports Report announced its picks to the SCISA Eight-Man All-Star Football Team… Laurens Academy quarterback Thomas Lowry was named to that team… Thomas threw for just shy of 2000 yards this past season with 23 touchdowns… He also rushed for just over 1000 yards and scored 12 times on the ground… He also played some defense for the Crusaders… As you may recall Thomas was also named to the All-Laurens County Football team this season as quarterback… Congratulations to Thomas on this honor

 

Middle School Basketball:

Newberry MS at Hickory Tavern last night.

  • Girls: HT 37 – Newberry 30 in OT… Faith Jackson had 23 points to lead the Panthers.
  • Boys: Newberry 57 – HT 32… Carter Faulkner had 9 points for the Panthers.

 

Tuesday: Newberry at Gray Court-Owings

  • Girls: Newberry 28 – GCO 23… Now on Tuesday night Newberry MS and GCO made up their games postpones earlier in the season… In girls’ action Newberry took a hard-fought 28-23 win… Newberry led 18-14 at the half and GCO cut that to 23-21 going into the fourth quarter… Newberry outscored GCO 5-2 in the fourth quarter to make the final 28-23… Dayzhia Grant led the Tigers with 14 of GCO’s 23 points.

 

Tuesday: Clinton MS at Mid-Carolina.

  • Girls: Mid-Carolina 25 – CMS 15… Sorry no scoring details
  • Boys: CMS 50 – Mid-Carolina 21… Sorry no scoring details.

  • Clinton 1977& 1978 State Championship Teams To Hold Reunion…. Players from the 1978 Clinton High School State Championship Football Team will celebrate their 40th anniversary of winning the 3A State Championship on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the House of Pizza in downtown Clinton SC at 2:00 pm… Also, Clinton High’s 1977 undefeated 3A State Championship Football Team is also invited to celebrate the only teams in Clinton High Football history and the first team in Laurens County Football history to win back to back State Championships… The 1977 team was also the #1 team in the State (all classification including 4A and what’s now called 5A)…If you are a former player from the 1977 and/or the 1978 team(s), please plan to attend and RSVP Dale Adams at 864 377-1536 or Keith Wooten at 864 980-7828 or Anthony Henderson at 864 684-8246 or JD Fuller at 803 466-3343… If you know members of these two teams, please pass this information on to them.
  • Baseball Winter Camp… The Raider Baseball program will be hosting a one-day baseball camp on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 11:00am-2:00pm… This camp will be held in the Main Gym at Laurens High School, as well as our indoor batting facility… The camp fee is $30/camper. If you have more than one child participating, each additional camper will be $20. This camp is being offered to anyone who is in 1st-8th grade. Campers will get the opportunity to practice and learn basic baseball fundamentals from the Raider Baseball coaches and players… For more information about his camp including what to bring, where to come to register that day, time to be there, who to contact for more information as well as the application form you will need to fill out, click here… Please email Coach Patterson if you plan on coming so they will know how many to expect….   • Youth Baseball Registration… Registration is now open for youth baseball through the Laurens Family YMCA and the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department… Ages 3-6 will register at the Laurens YMCS, Ages 7-8 Coaches Pitch as well as 9-10 Minors and 11-12 will register at The Ridge the Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters… Ages 13-15 will register at the Laurens YMCA…The cost is only $60 and that includes uniforms and insurance … Don’t let this pass you by as registration closed Thursday, February 7th.
  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration is now open for youth basketball for ages 3-6… The cost is $40 per child and registration will close 1-6-2019 with the season starting the next day.
