  • Girls: Emerald 70 – Clinton 29… In the first game, the #2 ranked Red Devils faced off against the #8 ranked Vikings… In the game last night the Red Devil offense had trouble getting on track while the Vikings came out hot and rolled to a 70-29 win over the Red Devils… The Vikings scored in double-digits in each of the four quarters while the most the Red Devils could score was 9 points in the first and third quarters… Coach Gardner commented afterwards that his team “missed opportunities early… (He was) excited to some players step up and play hard due to injuries”…  Emerald’ Dijah Moore led all scorers with 24 points… Clinton was led by Terriauna Bennett who had 9 points… Savannah Campbell finished with 7 points, Tinique Austin 5, Aaliyah Johnston 4, and both Taneal Evans & Latoria Johnson finished with 2 points each… The Lady Red Devils are now 14-2 on the season and 2-2 in region play.

  • Boys: Clinton 62 – Emerald 61… Now the news is better where the boys are concerned as the Red Devils took a nail-biting 62-61 win over the Vikings… The Red Devils actually led at the end of each quarter and carried a 49-40 lead into the fourth quarter… The Vikings did not give up and actually tied the game with less than 20 seconds left to play 61-61…  The Red Devils had a couple of miscues late in the game that the Vikings could not cash in on… The Red Devils came down the court and JD Payne was fouled with 1.5 seconds left in the game and went to the free throw line made the front end of a one and one but missed the second shot which Emerald rebounded… They tried a long last-second shat which was off the mark giving the Red Devils the win… Afterwards Coach Eddie Romines commented “It’s nice to get a region win! It was a true team effort!   We had some guys come off the bench and contribute and our starters played pretty good too!   We had a few unforced turnovers in the fourth quarter that allowed Emerald to cut into our lead… Emerald has a good team… I give them credit for fighting back. However, the end result was we got our first region win!”… Payne finished the night with 23 points to lead all scorers… Konnor Richardson finished with 12 and Ahmari Bates 11 to give the Red Devils three players in double-digits… Titus Hood and Sam Tiller finished with 6 points each while PJ Bluford rounded out the scoring with 4 points… The Red Devils improve to 4-11 on the season and 1-3 in region play… The Red Devil varsity teams will be back in action Friday as they host the Woodruff Wolverines.
