Sports Report for Friday, 1-25-2019

PC Notes:

  • WBK: Radford 59 – PC 49… The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team rallied to cut the lead to single digits late in the fourth quarter, but Radford hung to take a 59-49 win on Tuesday night at Radford… Salina Virola led the Blue Hose with 11 points… For more information on this game, click here… Presbyterian College falls to 4-13 (2-4 Big South) on the year, while Radford moves to 12-6 (6-1 Big South)…The ladies are back in action at Winthrop tomorrow for a 2:00 pm contest.


  • MBK: Campbell 77 – PC 73… Last night up at Campbell, it took a late run by the Camels in the second half to survive the Blue Hose in a back and forth Big South battle as Campbell came away with a 77-73 win over the Blue Hose… Romeo Crouch led the Blue Hose with 16 points….The Blue Hose are now 12-10 overall and 4-3 in Big South play while Campbell goes to 11-8 and 4-1… For more information on this game, click here… The team will host Winthrop tomorrow at the Templeton Center in a 4:00 pm contest


Local Notes:

CHS:  The Red Devil JV basketball teams hosted the Mid-Carolina Rebels last night.

  • JV Girls: Mid-Carolina 30 – Clinton 26… The Lady Red Devils lost a close one as Mid-Carolina took a 30-26 win… Grayson Taylor led the Red Devils in scoring with 10 points… Nikejah Boyd finished with 6.
  • JV: Boys: Clinton 53 – Mid-Carolina 22… Better news where the JV boys are concerned as they rolled to a 53-22 win over the Rebels… Danny Kinard was the leading scorer for the Red Devils with 11 points.

Varsity at Mid-Carolina Tonight… Be sure to take the short ride down to Prosperity tonight where the Red Devil varsity basketball teams will be in important region games against the Rebels of Mid-Carolina HS.


LDHS:  The Laurens Raider sub-varsity teams traveled to Easley HS to take on the Green Wave

  • JV Girls: Easley 22 – Laurens 19… In JV girls’ action the Raiders lost a heartbreaker as they fell 22-19 to the Green Wave… The Raiders trailed going into the 4th quarter but came back to tie the game only to have Easley pick up a loose ball with 20 seconds left to score and take the lead and then add another point on a free throw… Angle Johnson led the Raiders in scoring with 15 points.
  • 9th Grade Boys: Easley 40 – Laurens 36… Sorry no other details
  • JV Boys: Easley 27 – Laurens 18… Isaiah Burnside had 10 of the Raiders 18 points.

Varsity at Home Tonight… The Raider varsity basketball teams will be at home tonight to take on the Green Wave in very important region games… Please come out and support the Raiders but if you can’t make it you can catch all the action here on Real Radio 860 WLBG and streaming live on the internet at


Laurens Academy: The Laurens Academy Crusaders hosted the Eagles of Richard Winn Academy last night in region action.

  • Girls: LA 46 – RWA 34… The Crusader girls’ varsity basketball team continues to roll along in region play as they took a 46-34 win over the Eagles last night… They held the Eagles scoreless in the first quarter and then dominated every quarter but the last where the Eagles did outscore the Crusader subs… Ruthie Moore had a game-high 27 points for the Crusader… Blair Quarles finished with 6 points, Sarah Grace Natiello finished with 5, Regan Williamson 4 while and both Payton Breen and Jennifer Wu finished with 2 points each… The Crusaders are now 18-3 on the season and 6-0 in region play.
  • Boys: RWA 53 – LA 43… Now the news is not as good where the varsity boys are concerned as the Eagles took a 53-43 win… The Crusaders actually led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter but the Eagles outscored them 18-6 in the second quarter to carry a 27-17 lead into the locker room at the half and the Crusaders just could not climb out of the hole in the second half… Noah Moore had a game high 19 points to lead the Crusaders… Dawson Foster finished with 13 points, Diamonte Grant 6, Charlton McCall 3 and Thomas Lowry 2… The Crusaders are now 12-78 on the season and 4-3 in region play.

Crusaders at Home Tonight… All the Crusader basketball teams will be back in anion today as they host the Knights of WW King Academy.

Westview Titans at Sanders

  • Girls: Westview took a 10 point win… Sorry no more information at this time.
  • Boys: Sanders 49 – Westview 46… Sanders’ Ty’Quavis Johnston hit a shot at the buzzer to give Sanders the win


Hickory Tavern at Gray Court-Owings.

  • Girl: HT 51 – GCO 40… The Panthers got off to a fast start as they led 19-5at the end of the first quarter and were never really threatened after that… Faith Jackson had 39 of the Panthers 51 points… Dayzia Grant led the Tigers with 25 points.
  • Boys: HT 42 – GCO 21… The Panthers completed the sweep of the Tigers by rolling to a 42-21 win in the boys’ game… The Panthers outscored the Tigers 13-2 in the third quarter as turnovers plagued the Tigers all night…The Panthers’ Mason Aiken led all scorers with 18 points including four three-point goals and Carter Faulkner finished with 10 points… Jaylin Simmons had 8 points to lead the Tigers and Jay Hunter 7.

  • Clinton 1977 & 1978 State Championship Teams To Hold Reunion…. Players from the 1978 Clinton High School State Championship Football Team will celebrate their 40th anniversary of winning the 3A State Championship on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the House of Pizza in downtown Clinton SC at 2:00 pm… Also, Clinton High’s 1977 undefeated 3A State Championship Football Team is also invited to celebrate the only teams in Clinton High Football history and the first team in Laurens County Football history to win back to back State Championships… The 1977 team was also the #1 team in the State (all classification including 4A and what’s now called 5A)…If you are a former player from the 1977 and/or the 1978 team(s), please plan to attend and RSVP Dale Adams at 864 377-1536 or Keith Wooten at 864 980-7828 or Anthony Henderson at 864 684-8246 or JD Fuller at 803 466-3343… If you know members of these two teams, please pass this information on to them.


  • Raider Baseball Tryouts… Coach Patterson has announced tryout dates for those interested in trying to make one of 3 Raider baseball teams this season… High school students who want to try out for the varsity or JV squads need to come to Ed Prescott Field on Monday or Tuesday January 28th or 29th between the hours of 4-5;30 pm… New this year will be a C-Team which id for middle school students only… They should report to Red Prescott Field on Wednesday or Thursday between 4-5:30 pm… Everyone must turn in a current physical before being allowed to try out.   • Raider Softball Tryouts… Coach Smith has also announced that the rider softball team will be holding tryouts for the varsity & JV squads January 28th through January 30th… Tryouts will be at the LSHS softball field starting at 4:15 pm each day and again participants must have a current physical before being allowed to tryout… Also be sure to bring appropriate equipment, as in gloves, cleats, etc… If you have questions or for more information call Coach Smith at 864-684-0110.


  • Joe Adair Outdoor Education Chicken Stew Fundraiser… The Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center will be having its final chicken stew fundraiser for this school year on February 1st… The cost of the stew will be $8:50 per quart… all monies raised will be used for the maintenance and upkeep of the center… The center is used by students in School Districts 55 & 56 from kindergarten to high school… It is also used by community and civic groups…Stew can be preordered by calling the center at 864-984-5492…. The stew will be available for pickup from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on February 1st at the center.


  • Laurens Area Youth Baseball Registration… Registration is now open for youth baseball through the Laurens Family YMCA and the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department… Ages 3-6 will register at the Laurens YMCS, Ages 7-8 Coaches Pitch as well as 9-10 Minors and 11-12 will register at The Ridge the Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters… Ages 13-15 will register at the Laurens YMCA…The cost is only $60 and that includes uniforms and insurance … Don’t let this pass you by as registration closed Thursday, February 7th.


  • Clinton YMCA Youth Baseball, Softball & O-Zone Baseball Registration Open… Registration for all levels of baseball including O-Zone baseball and girls’ softball is now open through Tuesday, 2-12-19… For information such as age levels for each type of baseball and softball, cut off dates for determining age, fall-out dates, cost, financial aid information and who to call if you have more questions, see our posting in the Featured Sports section on the right-lower side of our homepage at


  • Hydra Softball Sign Ups… Registration for Hydra Softball will begin February 1st and continue until February 21st for girls ages 6-12 at the Hickory Tavern Park… Registration will be done on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am – 2pm… The cost is only $45 per child… If you have questions or want more information contact Nichole Patterson at 864-907-1549 or email her at:


  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration is now open for youth basketball for ages 3-6… The cost is $40 per child and registration will close 1-6-2019 with the season starting the next day.
