Sports Report for Friday, 2-1-2019

PC Notes:

  • WBK: UNC-Asheville 52 – PC 43… Back on Tuesday the Lady Blue Hose hosted the Lady Bulldogs of UNC-Ashville at the Templeton Center… PC led 23-22 at the half but the Bulldogs came out in the second half and outscored the Blue Hose 30-20 to take a 52-43 win… Kacie Hall had a game-high 12 points to lead the PC offense… For more information on this game, click here…. PC falls to 4-15 (2-6 Big South) while UNC Asheville improves to 10-9 (5-3 Big South) on the season…. The team will host Charleston Southern tomorrow in a 2:00 pm contest at the Templeton Center.
  • MBK: Charleston Southern 85 – PC 84… One day later on Wednesday the men were in action as they traveled down I-26 to take on the Charleston Southern Buccaneers…It was a close game all night with 10 lead changes but in the end the Bucs hot a three-pointer that proved to be the winner as the Bucs took an 85-84 win…  The game also featured a total of 31 three-point goals… Francois Lewis led PC with a game high 25 points… For more information on this game, click here… PC is now 13-11 on the season and 5-4 in Big South Play… The Blue Hose will not return to action until next Thursday night when they UNC-Ashville at 7:00 pm in the Templeton Center.

 

Local Notes:

CHS:  The Clinton JV basketball teams hosted the Emerald Vikings last night

  • Girls: Clinton 38 – Emerald 16… Four different Red Devils had 6 points but Coach Speaks did not tell me who they were… Sorry about that.
  • Boys: Clinton 60 – Emerald 38… The Red Devils made it a sweep of the Vikings last night as the JV boys rolled to a 60-38 win over the Vikings… Emerald led 10-8 at the end of the first quarter but by the time the teams went to the locker rooms at the half Clinton led 27-16 and was never really threatened after that… Nick McGowan and Jordan Davis led the Red Devils in scoring with 8 points each.

 

LDHS:

Sub-Varsity Basketball… The Laurens Raider sub-varsity teams hosted the Woodmont Wildcats last night.

  • JV Girls: Woodmont 46 – Laurens 13… The Wildcats put 19 points on the board in the first quarter while the Raiders managed just 5 and then rolled to a 46-13 win over the Raiders… Angel Johnson had 6 of the Raiders 13 points.
  • 9th grade boys: Laurens 39 – Woodmont 34… Sorry no details
  • JV Boys: Woodmont 35 – Laurens 27… Sorry no details.

50 Inning Game Tomorrow… The Laurens Raider softball and baseball teams will get together tomorrow starting at 10:00 on the LDHS softball field as they hold their annual 50 Inning Game… This is a fundraiser for the teams where they split up into 2 co-ed teams and play 50 innings of “one-pitch” softball with the large softball… The players have already asked fans to sponsor them in the game and they get together for some fun and friendly competition… The sponsorship money and funds raised at the concession stand will be split between the teams to help cover expenses not funded by the district this season…. Come on out and watch the fun and grab a hot dog or two.

 

Middle School Basketball…Last night the Little River Conference finished its season with the tournament championship games at CMS.

  • Girls: Mid-Carolina 42 – Hickory Tavern 30… The girls’ championship game saw the undefeated Mid-Carolina Rebels take a 42-30 win over the Panthers of Hickory Tavern… The Rebels took an 8-4 lead at the end of the first period and then continue to outscore the Panthers in every quarter to as they rolled to the win… The Rebels Bailey Stewart had 20 points and Haylee Gunter 11 to lead the victors… The Panthers Faith Jackson led all scorers with 23 points despite the Rebels using a “box and one” defense on her where every time she touched the ball 2 Rebels were pretty much on her.
  • Boys: Clinton MS 52 – Newberry MS 32…The boys’ championship game saw the CMS Wildcats take a 52-32 win over the Tigers of Newberry MS… The Wildcats only lead 15-10 at the half but came back out of the locker room on fire and outscored the Tigers 21-13 and never look back as they rolled on to the 20 point win… The charge in the second half by the Wildcats was led by Wil Stewart and Wilson Wages who got hot and wound up leading scorers in the game with 14 points each…. Austin Copeland was also in double-digits for the Wildcats with 11 points… Tylon Scurry also had 7 points and a lot of rebounds…Devonta Anderson finished with 4 points and Quay rant 2… The Tigers were led by Chrishaund Cromer who had 11 points and was the only Tiger in double-digits…. Congratulations to Mid-Carolina and Clinton on their championships!

  • Joe Adair Outdoor Education Chicken Stew Fundraiser… The Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center will be having its final chicken stew fundraiser for this school year on February 1st… The cost of the stew will be $8:50 per quart… all monies raised will be used for the maintenance and upkeep of the center… The center is used by students in School Districts 55 & 56 from kindergarten to high school… It is also used by community and civic groups…Stew can be preordered by calling the center at 864-984-5492…. The stew will be available for pickup from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on February 1st at the center.
  • Laurens Area Youth Baseball Registration… Registration is now open for youth baseball through the Laurens Family YMCA and the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department… Ages 3-6 will register at the Laurens YMCS, Ages 7-8 Coaches Pitch as well as 9-10 Minors and 11-12 will register at The Ridge the Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters… Ages 13-15 will register at the Laurens YMCA…The cost is only $60 and that includes uniforms and insurance … Don’t let this pass you by as registration closed Thursday, February 7th.
  • Clinton YMCA Youth Baseball, Softball & O-Zone Baseball Registration Open… Registration for all levels of baseball including O-Zone baseball and girls’ softball is now open through Tuesday, 2-12-19… For information such as age levels for each type of baseball and softball, cut off dates for determining age, fall-out dates, cost, financial aid information and who to call if you have more questions, see our posting in the Featured Sports section on the right-lower side of our homepage at

  • Laurens Family YMCA 2018 – 2019 Sports Schedules… The Laurens Family YMCA has released the schedules for signing up for different sports during the 2018-2019 sports seasons… To see the entire list of sports, ages for participation, sign-up dates, cost and when the season begins click here… If you have any other questions call the Y at 984-2626… Registration is now open for youth basketball for ages 3-6… The cost is $40 per child and registration will close 2-6-2019 with the season starting the next day.
