Local Notes:

CHS:

Fountain Introduced as New Football Coach at CHS… On Tuesday, 2-5-19 Athletic Director Dr. Nickie Templeton and the administration introduced Corey Fountain to the community as the head football coach at Clinton High School… Fountain comes to Clinton from Lamar HS where he has been the head coach since 2014 after having served as an assistant since 2012… Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach at Laurens HS and Hillcrest HS. He has led his team to winning seasons since 2014… The 1-A team was Region and Upper State Champions in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018… In 2015 and 2017 they were also the 1A Division II State Champions. Fountain received recognition as Region Coach of the Year, SC High School Sports Report Regional Coach of the Year, Class A Upper State Coach of the Year and SC High School League Coach of the Year…He is a graduate of Lamar HS and North Greenville University… He is married with two daughters and a son… To see a video made of the announcement, his comments and some photos click here.

 

 

LDHS:

Sub-varsity Teams at Home Tonight… The Raider JV and 9th Grade basketball teams will close out their season tonight as they host the Greenwood Eagles starting with the girls JV game starting at 5:30.

 

Carlay and Tinsley Sign Letters of Intent… Yesterday in the mini-gym at LDHS senior football players Wesley Carlay and Will Tinsley signed letters of intent to continue their education and football careers next fall… Carlay signed with The Citadel where he says he is not sure where the coaches will use him and he said “I am willing to do whatever they tell me to do, I just want to be a good player and teammate.”… He was a defensive lineman for the Raiders… He plans on majoring in Exercise Science and becoming a strength and conditioning coach… Tinsley signed with Erskine College which in 2020 will be bringing back intercollegiate football which it discontinued in 1951… Tinsley who was a wide receiver, defensive back and kick returner for the Raiders wants to major in Sports Management so he can continue to be around sports and possibly become a sports agent… Coach Chris Liner said “They are amazing young men. These two men will make an impact on these programs. We were blessed to get to be a part of their lives for the last four years.”  Congratulations to Will and Wesley.

Middle School… last week the Clinton Middle School boys’ basketball team won the Little River Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship… Below is a photo of the team after winning The Tournament Championship.

  • Joe Adair Outdoor Education Chicken Stew Fundraiser… The Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center will be having its final chicken stew fundraiser for this school year on February 1st… The cost of the stew will be $8:50 per quart… all monies raised will be used for the maintenance and upkeep of the center… The center is used by students in School Districts 55 & 56 from kindergarten to high school… It is also used by community and civic groups…Stew can be preordered by calling the center at 864-984-5492…. The stew will be available for pickup from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on February 1st at the center.
  • Clinton YMCA Youth Baseball, Softball & O-Zone Baseball Registration Open… Registration for all levels of baseball including O-Zone baseball and girls’ softball is now open through Tuesday, 2-12-19… For information such as age levels for each type of baseball and softball, cut off dates for determining age, fall-out dates, cost, financial aid information and who to call if you have more questions, see our posting in the Featured Sports section on the right-lower side of our homepage at
  • Hydra Softball Sign Ups… Registration for Hydra Softball will begin February 1st and continue until February 21st for girls ages 6-12 at the Hickory Tavern Park… Registration will be done on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am – 2pm… The cost is only $45 per child… If you have questions or want more information contact Nichole Patterson at 864-907-1549 or email her at: m-mscrapmetal-halfdime@outlook.com
