LDHS:  The Laurens Raider sub-varsity teams hosted the Greenwood Eagles last night in their final games of the season.

  • JV Girls: GHS 19 – LHS 18… The first game of the evening saw the JV girls take to the floor in what was a close game all the way… It was tied 6-6 at the half and 13-13 at the end of the third quarter… The final six minutes saw more of the same as the two teams fight almost to a draw… Greenwood got the go-ahead bucket with 12.3 seconds left and the Raiders had trouble getting the ball in and down the court as Greenwood stole the ball and took a 19-18 win… Angel Johnson led the Raiders with 11 points… The team finishes the season with a 2-16 overall record and 2-12 against region foes.
  • 9th Grade Boys: LHS 32 – GHS 24… Now the news is better where the 9th grade boys are concerned as they took a 32-24 win over the Eagles… The Raiders held the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter to take a 15-9 lead at the half… The Raiders continued to outscore the Eagles in each of the last two quarters as they went on to take a 32-24 win… Waldrick Burnside led the Raiders with 13 points and Isiah Craig finished with 6.
  • JV Boys: LHS 38 – GHS 34 in 2OT… In the final game of night the Raiders took a hard fought 38-34 win in 2 overtimes… The Raiders led 18-12 at the half but the Eagles came back and led 26-22 going into the fourth quarter… The Raiders then staged a comeback and tied the game 32-32 at the end of regulation and had a chance to win in regulation but just could not get a shot to fall near the buzzer… Both teams managed just 2 points in the first overtime… In the second overtime Chase Jackson scored 4 points to lift the Raiders to a 38-34 win… Jackson finished the night with a game-high 19 points while both Preston Mahon and Isaiah Burnside finished with 8 points each.
  • Varsity at Greenwood Tonight… The Raider varsity basketball teams will be traveling to Greenwood to take on the Eagles tonight starting with the girls’ game at 6:00 pm… The Lady Raiders have been eliminated from any chance to make the playoffs but that is not the case with the boys… The top 5 teams in the region will go to the playoffs and right now Laurens, Greenwood and JL Mann are all fighting for the last two spots… Needless to say tonight’s game will have a HUGE impact on whether the Raiders make it into the playoff… The Raiders defeated Greenwood by 1 point at home and I am sure the Eagles have revenge on throe mind… I am also sure the Raiders would like to see a large number of their fans in stands cheering them on tonight so come if you can.
