  • Winthrop 62 – PC 54… Last Saturday the Lady Blue Hose hosted the Winthrop Eagles as part of a double-header of basketball at the Templeton Center… The Blue Hose were down by double digits but rallied to get within 1 late in the fourth quarter but could get no closer as the Eagles hit the needed free throws at the end to take a 62-54 win… Salina Virola led the Blue Hose with 21 points, just one shy of her career-best 22…. • UNC Ashville 51 – PC 45… Last night the Lady Blue Hose traveled up I-26 to UNC Ashville and the trip back most likely seemed longer that the one going up as the Bulldogs took a 51-45 win over the Blue Hose… Again the Blue Hose were down by double-digits late in the game and came back to within 1 point this time but just could not get over the hump… Freshman Trinity Johnson scored a game-high and collegiate-best 15 points to lead the Blue Hose… For more information on this game, click here… The team will host High Point this Saturday at the Templeton Center in a 2:00 pm contest.

PC improves to 15-11 overall and 6-4 in the Big South, while Gardner-Webb drops to 15-10, 5-5 and the Blue Hose will be back in action tonight as they travel to Winthrop for a 7:00 pm contest that can be seen on ESPN+.

Local Notes:

CHS:

  • Clinton 67 – Chapman 61… The Red Devil boys’ basketball team traveled up to Inman last night to take on the #7 ranked Chapman Panthers… The two teams locked up in a tight battle all night long as the teams swapped leads with neither team having more than a 7 point lead at any time… The Red Devils trailed at the end of each quarter except the one that counts as they took a 67-61 win over the Panthers thus avenging an early season 79-73 loss to the Panthers… The Red Devils trailed 45-44 at the start of the final 8 minutes of play but fought back to take a 52-50 lead with 4:14 left in the game only to have Chapman come back and take a 59-58 lead with 1:30 left to play… Ahmari Bates then took over the Clinton offense as he scored 9 points down the stretch including going 7 of 8 from the free throw line in that stretch… As Coach Romines pointed out after the game it was a team win from starters and those coming off the bench…  He pointed out one play in particular with 16 seconds left to play when Bates missed the single free thow in the home stretch and Sam Tiller grabbed the rebound and instead of putting up an off balance shot got it back to Bates who hesitated long enough to get fouled and then coolly canned two more free throws… Bates finished with a game-high 32 points including four three-point goals… JD Payne was also in double-digits as he finished with 19 points before fouling out with about 3 minutes left in the game… He also had four three-point goals… Konnor Richardson finished with 6 points while both PJ Bluford and Sam Tiller finished with 5 points each… The Red Devils will travel to Seneca this Friday to take on the Bobcats who defeated Camden 62-56 in Seneca last night…. Go Big Red!!
