Sports Report for Friday, 2-15-2019

PC Notes:

  • MBK: Winthrop 93 – PC 85… Back on Wednesday the Blue Hose men’s basketball team traveled to Winthrop to take on the Eagles… PC led by as many as 14 early in the contest and still led 48-46 at the half but the Eagles came back to take a 93-85 win over the Blue Hose… Adam Flagler led the Blue Hose in scoring with 23 points… For more information on this game, click here… PC drops to 15-12 overall and 7-5 in the Big South, while Winthrop improves to 17-8, 9-3… The Blue Hose will host Campbell in a 4:30 pm contest tomorrow at the Templeton Center as part of a doubleheader of basketball.
  • Women… The Lady Blue Hose basketball team has been off since last Saturday when they to UNC-Ashville 51-45 and will be back in action tomorrow as they host High Point at 2:00 pm as the first game in the doubleheader of basketball.
  • Baseball Opens Season This Weekend… The PC baseball team opens its season this weekend as they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama starting this afternoon at 4:00 pm… For more information on the series this weekend, click here
  • Softball Travels to SC Coast… The PC softball team opened their season last weekend and their season record so far is 2-0-2… They will travel to Conway this weekend to participate in the Battle at the Beach hosted by Coastal Carolina…  For more information about this, click here. 

Local Notes:

CHS:  

  • Boys Basketball Travels to Seneca Tonight… The Red Devil boys’ basketball team will be back in action tonight as they travel to Seneca HS to take on the Bobcats in round 2 of the Class AA playoffs… As you may recall Seneca and Clinton played each other in the first round of the playoffs last season with Clinton taking a 70-47 win at home… Seneca comes into tonight’s game with a 12-13 overall record and finished second in Region I-AAA with a 7-3 region record behind Pendleton who finished first in the region behind with a 9-1 region record… They are averaging 56.6 points per game on offense while giving up 55.2 points per game on defense… In their first round playoff game on Tuesday night they defeated Camden at home by a score of 62-56 where they held a 35-28 lead at the half only to have Camden tie the game 45-45 by the end of third quarter with the Bobcats pulling away for the win in the fourth quarter… Now of course the Red Devils took a 67-61 win over #7 ranked Chapman at Chapman on Tuesday night to improve their record to 9-13 on the season… Clinton is averaging 59.6 points per game on offense while giving up 63.9 points per game on defense… After a slow start to the season the Red Devils seem to be getting all together and let’s hope that continues tonight… Go Big Red!

 

Laurens Academy:

Reminder that the Crusaders Start State Tournament Action This Weekend… Both Laurens Academy Crusader varsity basketball teams are coming off winning their region tournament last weekend and will start their participation in the SCISA Class A State Basketball Playoffs this weekend.

  • Girls: The #1 seeded Crusader girls will take on the Clarendon Hall Saints tonight at 6:30 in Gym B at Heathwood Hall in Columbia…  Clarendon Hall comes into the game with a 4-17 overall record and are a #4 seed…To see the entire Class A girls’ playoff bracket for the tournament click on the following:
  • Boys: The #2 seeded boys will take to the court for the first time tomorrow at noon also at Heathwood Hall in Gym B as the face off against Dorchester Academy… The Dorchester Academy Raiders come into the game with a 13-7 overall record and are a #3 seed…To see the entire Class A boys’ playoff bracket for the tournament click on the following:

NASCAR: Well up in heaven or old friend Big Gene is all smiles as the NASCAR season kicks off this weekend for real down in Daytona, Florida…. If you would like to see a printable schedule for the entire NASCAR season click here.

  • Gander Truck Series… This will kick off tonight at 7:30 and can be seen on FS1
  • Xfinity Series… The drivers in this race will take to the track tomorrow at 2:30 and it can also be seen on FS1
  • Monster Energy Series… That leave the Daytona 500 which will start at 2:30 on Sunday and it can be seen on FOX…
