Sports Report for Wednesday, 3-6-2019

Local Notes:

  • Baseball: BHP 9 – Clinton 1… The Red Devil baseball team traveled over to BHP last night to take on the Bears and I hate to have to say this but the Red Devil bats were as cold as the weather this morning as they managed just 2 hits while the Bears roughed up three Red Devil pitchers for 12 hits as they took a 9-1 win over Clinton… The Bears scored 4 runs in the second and 5 in the third while holding the Red Devils to a single run in the sixth inning… Griffin Fuller and Blake Smith had 1 hit each for the Red Devils… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-5-19-CBB-BHP… For the games scorecard, click on the following:3-5-19-CBB-BHP-SC … The team will be back in action Thursday night as they host Broome in a JV-Varsity doubleheader.

LDHS:  The Laurens Raider baseball and softball teams took on the wade Hampton Generals last night one at home and one on the road.

  • Baseball: Laurens 4 – Wade Hampton 3 in 9 innings… The Raider baseball teams hosted the Generals at Ed Prescott Field last night and for a while it looked like it might be a repeat of last year when the Raiders took a 12-11 win in 13 innings… Well it did not go quite that far and the two teams did not score near that amount of runs but the good news is that the Raiders took a 4-3 win over the Generals in 9 innings… The Raiders got the win when in the bottom of the 9th inning with no outs and the bases loaded Nick Robertson was hit by a pitch to bring in Eric Jones from third base… The game was pretty much a pitchers’ duel as Drew Hayes for the Generals and Nick Robertson for the Raiders started on the mound and pitched until both reached their pitch count limit for the day as set by SCHSL rules… Jalen Bragg picked up the win in relief of Robertson in the last inning… The Raiders pounded out 11 hits with Zac Rice, Kobe Williams and Luke Willis each getting 2 hits for the Raiders… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-5-19-LBB-Wade-Hampton… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 3-5-19-LBB-Wade-Hampton-SC…  The Raiders return to action Thursday when they travel to Emerald for a 6:00 pm game that was scheduled for Monday but the field was just too wet.

  • Softball: Laurens 11 – Wade Hampton 2… Meanwhile the Lady Raider softball team traveled to Greenville to take on the Generals… This was their first game of the season and good news for Raider fans as they defeated the Generals 11-2 to give new Head Coach Michaela Smith the first win of her career… The Raider led 4-2 going into the top of the 5th inning when they broke the game open scoring 7 runs in the inning and then holding the Generals scoreless the rest of the wat to take the win… The Raiders only had 6 hits in the game but took full advantage of 9 walks issued by the Generals’ pitchers and 5 General errors…  Cassie Plaia led the Raiders at the plate with 3 hits… Rachel Delio picked up the complete game win giving up just 2 hits while striking out 8 and walking 2… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-5-19-LSB-Wade-Hampton … For the games scorecard, click on the following: 3-5-19-LSB-Wade-Hampton-SC… The Raiders will be back in action today as they travel to Clinton to take on the Red Devils with the varsity game scheduled to start at 7:00 pm… You can hear that game here on Real Radio 860 and streaming live on the internet at
