Sports Report for Thursday, 3-7-2019

Local Notes: 

CHS and LDHS

  • Softball: Clinton 7 – Laurens 1… Last night the Clinton Red Devils hosted the Laurens Raiders in softball action… The Raiders got on the board first in the top of the first inning as Cassie Plaia led the game off with a single and then later scored on a wild pitch to put the Raiders up 1-0… The Red Devils responded by putting 3 runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and then went on to take a 7-1 win over the Raiders… The Red Devils only outhit the Raiders 8-7 but their hits came at the most opportune time with Maddi Wood doing most of the damage… She went 3 for 3 on the night with a solo homer, a triple and a double to drive in 4 of the Red Devil runs…. Kam Akins picked up the complete game win scattering the 7 hits among the 12 strikeouts she recorded while walking only 2… Cassie Plaia was the only Raider to record more than one hot as she had two singles on the night… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-6-19-CSb-LSb … For the games scorecard, click on the following: 3-6-19-CSb-LSb-SC… The Red Devils improve to 5-0 on the season while the Raiders are now 1-1 on the season… The Red Devils are scheduled to travel to Whitmire tomorrow while the Raider are scheduled to host Greenwood provided the rain holds off tomorrow… we do plan on bringing you the varsity game against Greenwood here on Real Radio 860 and streaming live on the internet at WLBG.com.

 

 Laurens Academy:

  • Baseball: Richard Winn 11 – LA 1… Yesterday afternoon the Laurens Academy Crusader baseball team was finally able to get their season started as they traveled to Richard Winn to take on the Eagles… The Crusaders got on the board first scoring a single run in the top of the second inning when Clarence Bartoli singled driving in Kyle Thompson from second base… The Eagles matched that in the bottom of the inning making the score 1-1… After that it was all Eagles as they pulled away to take and 11-1 win over the Crusaders in 6 innings… The Eagles got their 11 runs on 10 timely hits of 2 Crusader pitchers and were aided by 4 walks… The Crusaders managed only 2 hits and Cal Robertson had the second hit for the Crusaders… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 3-6-19-LA-BB-Richard Winn

 

College Notes

  • PC 106 – UNC-Ashville 59… Back on Tuesday the PC men’s basketball team opened up play in the Big South Tournament as they hosted the Bulldogs of UNC-Asheville…. Well the #7-seed Presbyterian College men’s basketball team hit 21 three-pointers, including a record 13 in the first half to take a 106-59 win over #10 seeded Bulldogs…  The 47-point margin of victory was the most in a Big South tournament game… JC Younger led the Blue Hose with 24 points, all coming off an eight-of-14 effort from the perimeter…. Now for more information on this game, click here… With the win, the Blue Hose advance to the second round of the Big South Tournament and will be playing today at noon up in Buies Creek, NC as they take on the #2 seeded Radford Highlanders… The game can be heard on the PC Radio Network and seen on ESPN3… Good Luck to the Blue Hose

  • SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament… Now the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament started yesterday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena with a couple of first round games… If you would like to see the bracket, results and other information for this tournament click here… All games are being televised on the SEC Network… A reminder for you Gamecock fans out there, The #2 seeded gamecocks will not play until tomorrow at 6:00 pm when they take on the winner of the Arkansas vs. Georgia game tonight.

 

  • ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament… The ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament also kicked off yesterday in Greensboro with a trio of first round games… The #7 seeded Clemson Tigers will be in action tonight at 6:00 pm as they take on #10 seeded Virginia Tech who defeated Wake Forest 85-63 yesterday… If you would like to see the tournament bracket, scores and other information including how to view the games, click here.

  • 2019 Clinton YMCA Prayer Breakfast… The Clinton YMCA will be having its 41st Annual Prayer Breakfast March 4-8 at the Broad Street Methodist Church staring each day at 7:00 am… They would like to encourage all students and adults to attend this free series of inspiration speakers….   • Youth Soccer at the Laurens YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA for youth ages 3-15… The cost is $50 for Y members and $60 for non-members… Registration will close March 31st… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.

 

  • 2019 Raider Baseball Alumni Game and Weekend… This year’s Laurens Raider Alumni Baseball game / Weekend will be held on April 5th and 6th at Ed Prescott Field… Raider baseball alumni will be admitted free to the Raider baseball games on Friday, April 5th when the Raiders host JL Mann in a JV-varsity doubleheader starting at 5:00 pm with the JV game… Those present will be recognized before the varsity game at 7:30… Then on Saturday, April 6th the Alumni Game will start at 11:30 with team assignments and batting practice starting at 10:00 am… Now for more information about this event including how to register for it, cost and other activities planned, click hereRegistration should be back into Coach Patterson by March 22nd… If you have any further questions email Coach Patterson at kjpatterson@laurens55.org or eopatterson@laurens55.org.
