Sports Report for Monday, 3-11-2019

Local Notes: As far as I have been able to determine, all the local softball and baseball games scheduled for Friday and Saturday were postponed so let’s do some catching up on other sports at the local schools.

CHS:

  • Boys Soccer: South Pointe 2 – Clinton 0… Back on Wednesday the Red Devil boys’ soccer team hosted the South Pointe Stallions over at the PC soccer stadium… The two teams failed to score in the first half of the match and the Stallions got two late goals in the match to take a 2-0 win….   • Boys Soccer: Dixie 5 – Clinton 3… Then on Thursday the Red Devils traveled to Due West to take on the Dixie Hornets on the Erskine field… Now there was more scoring in this match than there was the day before against South Pointe but unfortunately the Red Devils came up on the short end of a 5-3 score… Dixie outscored Clinton 3-1 in the first half and the two teams tied 2-2 in the second half… For more information on this match, click here… The Red Devils are now 1-2 on the young season.
  • Girls Soccer: Palmetto 8 – Clinton 0… Also last Thursday the lady Red Devil soccer team traveled to Williamston to take on the Palmetto HS Mustangs… All I can tell you is that the Red Devils lost by a score of 8-0… I believe Clinton’s record is now 2-2 on the season.
  • Girls Golf: Clinton 166 – Laurens 184… The Lady Red Devil golf team opened their season a week ago today as they defeated the Laurens Raiders 166-184 at Lakeside CC… Phoebe Carlos led the Red Devils with a 37 and of course was the Match Medalist… The Raiders were led by Bailey Goode who shot a 41… Now to see the other scores for both the Red Devils and the Raiders, click here.
  • Track at Hillcrest: Boys Track Finishes Third… Last Wednesday the boys’ track team took part in a meet at Hillcrest HS…. I don’t have any individual results but I can tell you the Red Devils finished third with 112 points… Hillcrest finished first with 178 points, Laurens second with 160.5 points and Woodmont fourth with 88.5 points…. Girls Track Finishes Third… In the same event at Hillcrest, the Lady Red Devils also finished third with 84 points… Again Hillcrest finished first with 213.5 points, Woodmont second with 88.5 points and Laurens fourth with 44 points… Again no individual results available at this time.

 

LDHS:  

  • Track at Hillcrest… As I mentioned a few moments ago the Raider track team finished second last Wednesday up at Hillcrest… I do have more information on how individual Raiders did and I can tell you they were led by Evan Price who won the 800 and 1600 meter races as well as the anchor leg or the 4X400 relay team… Now for more information on other Raiders in this event, click here….   • Track at Eastside… This past Saturday the Raider track teams were in action at the Chick-Fil-A Invitational at Eastside HS… Boys Track… The Raiders finished 17th out of 28 boys’ teams participating in the meet with Zy Todd being the only Raider to place in an event… He finished third in the 110 meter hurdles… To see more about what Coach Stephens had to report on the boys, click here…. Girls Track… In the same meet the Lady Raiders finished 21st out of 28 teams participating… Andrea Choice was the top placer for the ladies….   • Boys Tennis… Last week the Raider boys’ tennis team played 4 different matches…. I hate to have to report that they lost all 4 matches… If you would like to see the details on each of the matches click on the score of each of the following… Monday: Easley 4 – Laurens 3Tuesday: Wade Hampton 7 – Laurens 0….Wednesday: TL Hanna 7 – Laurens 0Thursday: Greenwood 7 – Laurens 0.
  •  Soccer at Wade Hampton… A week ago today both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams opened their seasons at wade Hampton… Bothe the Raider teams suffered losses as the boys lost 13-1 and the girls lost 9-0… Now as far as I know there are no other details available on those matches.

  • SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament… Now the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament started yesterday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena with a couple of first round games… If you would like to see the bracket, results and other information for this tournament click here… All games are being televised on the SEC Network… A reminder for you Gamecock fans out there, the #2 seeded gamecocks will not play until tomorrow at 6:00 pm when they take on the winner of the Arkansas vs. Georgia game tonight.

 

  • ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament… The ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament also kicked off yesterday in Greensboro with a trio of first round games… The #7 seeded Clemson Tigers will be in action tonight at 6:00 pm as they take on #10 seeded Virginia Tech who defeated Wake Forest 85-63 yesterday… If you would like to see the tournament bracket, scores and other information including how to view the games, click here.

 

  • Southern Conference basketball Tournaments… The Southern Conference Women’s basketball Tournament is starting today up in Asheville and the men’s will start tomorrow also up in Ashville… If you information abbot both of these tournaments, click here.

  • Youth Soccer at the Laurens YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA for youth ages 3-15… The cost is $50 for Y members and $60 for non-members… Registration will close March 31st… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.

 

  • 2019 Raider Baseball Alumni Game and Weekend… This year’s Laurens Raider Alumni Baseball game / Weekend will be held on April 5th and 6th at Ed Prescott Field… Raider baseball alumni will be admitted free to the Raider baseball games on Friday, April 5th when the Raiders host JL Mann in a JV-varsity doubleheader starting at 5:00 pm with the JV game… Those present will be recognized before the varsity game at 7:30… Then on Saturday, April 6th the Alumni Game will start at 11:30 with team assignments and batting practice starting at 10:00 am… Now for more information about this event including how to register for it, cost and other activities planned, click hereRegistration should be back into Coach Patterson by March 22nd… If you have any further questions email Coach Patterson at kjpatterson@laurens55.org or eopatterson@laurens55.org.
