Over $30 Million Investments & 125 New Jobs

Laurens County Council gave unanimous approval for two economic development matters for the county this week.

Council gave second reading approval for a Fee-In-Lieu-of Tax “FILOT” agreement for a project identified as “Project Needle Punch” County Attorney Sandy Cruickshanks advised council members that this FILOT agreement is with a company already existing here in Laurens County, noting that the plans for this project will result in an estimated new investment in real and personal property in the county in an amount of $12,100,000 and approximately 25 new full-time jobs.” Project Needle Punch now requires a public hearing and a 3rd and final vote of approval from County Council.

Council gave a first reading approval for another development project where a company want to begin a new facility here in Laurens County. This company is currently identified as “Project Blueberry.” Jonathan Coleman from the Laurens County Development Corporation told council at their Tuesday evening meeting that this company plans to invest just over $18 Million, and said they are expected to provide over 100 new jobs in Laurens County within the company’s first five years. “Project Blueberry” still needs a 2nd vote, a public hearing and a 3rd vote by County Council.
